I second that original ideas, at least some of them.
As a technical background; I wondered if these variables could be extracted from the filed flight plan and/or GPS module:
-Final Cruising Altitude (when not manually altered later on)
-Distance to destination and ground speed -> quick calculation how long to fly, add 10 minutes for dumb M$ ATC
-Destination (code/name) and flight number
1) So, the PNF (or Captain) should come in once at cruising altitude and tell You something like "Welcome on board our flight ($flightnumber) to
($destinationname). We have reached our cruising altitude of ($cruisingaltitude) and should land aproximately in ($calculatedtimetodestination). We
wish You a pleasant stay on board."
2) On most flights, I heard either a "cabin crew prepare for landing" or lately "cabin crew 10 minutes". Either way, luckily for them, they knew when
they would have to pack up the stuff and get to their seats. I do not know if it's possible to get some value from the ATC engine that tells if You
are vectoring for approach. I just wondered; once You receive Your approach "expect rwy (rwynumber)(approachtype) the flight should be more or less
coming to an end. Maybe there's a distinct value on some (to me unknown) variable that could be read for triggering the "prepare for landing" message?
3) On a different matter, can the food&Drinks service manually be stopped? I had a flight yesterday with some turbulences enroute that led to the last
paxes being served on final approach (less than 5 miles out or so, dont remember the alt). I had to go extra-slow on full flaps since I descended
below 10000 just to have them finished in time.
Thanks Dan nice stuff no matter how much crap we write
