I cancel my IFR flights and request landing at the airport of my choice (picked from GPS nearest ap screen).
You can normally choose alternate approaches/rwys if the one given from ATC isn't to your liking.
After receiving the clearance from ATC (mostly for visual) I then fly an approach as stated in the appropriate STAR. If the rwy is IFR capable
you can fly IFR's w/o problems as FS9 doesn't switch off the localizer or glideslope. The only problem is that ATC won't give you any
vectors etc...but with the correct charts this ain't a problem.
