Most of the time when they insist on placing cones around the airplane is when I am in Europe. I never got that, what they are going to
miss the 14' tall King Air but see the 1.5' tall cone?
As part of the walk around I will pick up all of the offending cones and stack them behind the airplane. We had one pilot suck up a red
carpet into the propeller at Hooks with a B300 and since then I will not allow anything, carpet or cone alike to be near the airplane when
we start and taxi out. Yes the carpet was behind the wing, but since we start with the propellers feathered for some reason the carpet got
picked up and went forward toward the propeller as opposed to getting blown backward. The pilot also started with the vanes out which
Beech says will cause air to get sucked from the back of the wing toward the ice vane doors. If it did not happen to someone else I would
have never considered a carpet behind the wing to be a problem.
