It needs to have some kind of scale set, based on distance and desirability. In general, in real life, I've found that the longer the flight
(distance), the higher the price. However, the increase is not constant, as the average seat/mile price tends to go down as the distance
increases. The exception would be on high traffic routes over short distances. I would expect to pay far more to go from BOS-LHR than
say, BOS-STL but, BOS-LGA and BOS-ALB may have drastically different fares, even though the distance is nearly the same.
I'd say this should be something to consider for an update. I only have a range of about 500nm right now, just starting so I haven't run into this problem yet!
But, the max distance should be raised and the scale of prices adjusted. Otherwise, there's really no reason to use long range aircraft. Planes like the 777-200LR, etc. are more efficient at longer ranges so you're wasting resources by not utilizing them to the fullest.
