Earning the same money per pax on longrange and midrange??? - bvl - 01-12-2005

I experienced the following:

On a Long-Range flight (more than 2700nm) i had a ticket income of 171.569 Euro (254 Pax).
On a Mid-Range flight (1700nm) i had the exactly same ticket income of 171.569 Euro (254 Pax).
Even on a 4000nm journey i do not earn more with my 767-300.

What's wrong? And: If it's ok, how can that be explained?

Thanks in advance
Bodo

nothing is wrong, you just have a cap on the amount you can earn. once you reach a certain range, your money stops increasing and your just burning
fuel, now with just 190 pax on a 757-200 with RR engines and winglets going from KJFK to EGCC I can earn $7 million not including fleet income,
however had I flown farther (and I could have gone on another 1,000 NM) I prolly wouldn't have made much because of the fact that I was just burning
fuel. And as of yet no one has figured out the distance limit.

It needs to have some kind of scale set, based on distance and desirability. In general, in real life, I've found that the longer the flight
(distance), the higher the price. However, the increase is not constant, as the average seat/mile price tends to go down as the distance
increases. The exception would be on high traffic routes over short distances. I would expect to pay far more to go from BOS-LHR than
say, BOS-STL but, BOS-LGA and BOS-ALB may have drastically different fares, even though the distance is nearly the same.

I'd say this should be something to consider for an update. I only have a range of about 500nm right now, just starting so I haven't run into this problem yet! Smile But, the max distance should be raised and the scale of prices adjusted. Otherwise, there's really no reason to use long range aircraft. Planes like the 777-200LR, etc. are more efficient at longer ranges so you're wasting resources by not utilizing them to the fullest.
