Hi, from my short experience as a Vatsim pilot (2 months-OAL701), I can tell you this. All the Europeans controllers/pilots speak English.
For example, I was at Athens-Venizelos Intl. airport requesting clearance in Greek, when the tower asked me to speak in English
because there were 2 pilots from other countries standby for clearance. The same when I was airborne, because of foreign pilots in the
Hellenic FIR.
