Everyone's got their own techniques! I prefer to use the AP MOST of the time, however I'll hand fly departures and approaches (both in the
sim and in reality). Keeps me fresh on techniques!

You hand-fly your approaches? I'll bet your passengers hate you for that, bouncing and banging them all over the place as you weave
into that perfect lineup. :-)

Being as I'm a frequent passenger it's easy to tell the difference between machine and man-flown parts of a flight!

After 15 years of flying, a manual approach is pretty much second nature. If you flew on one of my flights, you wouldn't be able to tell if I'm
using the AP down to the DH, or hand flying from 10,000ft. I'm just that good



If you practice, practice, and practice some more, you'll get the hang of it. A flawless manual approach isn't that bad. I usually don't have
that many PAX complaints. Of course there's the occasional gripe, but what can you expect?

Yesterday I had my best landing... Right onto the center line, at the very beginning of the runway, -83 ft per minute...
Even my mother had to hear me celebrating!

I'm a pretty good virtual pilot by all means, my computer goes wrong and fails a lot though, I always hand fly approaches, landing and departures. The
autopilot does the boring stuff. I have many kiss landings in the -50/60/70fpm category. But on the 757 I'm more like 150-200fpm
