Oh for god's sake, that first officer is a total stinking wimp!

I was dscending over to the runway on landing just now and before the flare, at a normal descent rate of 800fpm, the FO yelled "Hey, we're gonna hit
the ground!" Of course, my landing was smooth and even had the (nice) comment by it, so really that FO should be fired. He sh!ts his pants too often.
And never does a bit of flying....

The old FO has been fired. The "updated" Fo has a better tolerance!!!

I did some testing of this with the Beta update and it seems that now he is a lot less 'wimp-ish' if you wish to call it that

I think the new FO was just told to shut up, whatever might happen. I just had an emergency landing (no flaps), we
came in way too fast
and hit the runway at -750fpm. He didn't dare saying anything. Or maybe he died from a heart attack

Brad could jump in to confirm, but I remember I read that -800 ft/min is the vertical speed at touchdown that would break your gears. As
flare begins around 50 ft AGL, yes, you were descending way too fast at such low altitude.

However, I could add that this was my 2nd flight in a new Feelthere ERJ and the flaps failure was not very welcome at that time. Anyway, I
did some not so smooth landings in the meantime, without any emergency. Still kinda fighting with this bird...

I've touched down as hard as -750ft/min with NO DAMAGE at all (besides PAX and crew!). The gear can take a pretty hard touchdown, but
again that differs with gross weight at landing. A light aircraft can take a much harder landing than an aircraft near max landing weight
(as most of ours usually are). The flare begins anywhere between 20 and 50 FT AGL. Esentially I might have a -700fpm descent at 50
feet, then touchdown with a -100FPM descent rate. It seems that the old FO would yell at me for this. Terrible, just terrible

djsebx, don't get me wrong but I learnt that 800fpm per minute is a normal descent rate until about 30 feet AGL which is when the flare actually
starts in the aircraft I was flying, the 737-400. Flaring at 50ft is way too high in that plane, and will lead to a long landing (as in overshoot the
TDZ). So in fact what I did is perfectly normal. I'm not talking about the touchdown rate of descent, that was less than 200fpm. I'm just saying that
it is normal to descend at 800-1000fpm until about 25-30ft in a 737 in which you flare and do a nice smooth landing. The FO just seems to have a
needless problem about it.

As I've previously mentioned, the flare will normally take place between about 20 and 50 feet AGL (although sometimes as low as 10...
depends on a lot of external factors). You basically need to judge your flare location based on your vertical speed, and IAS. With high
negative vertical speed and low IAS, you'd flare higher than normal. With low negative vertical speed and high IAS you'd be flaring lower
than normal. All depends on conditions.
