HURRICANE KATRINA! Flying for a cause.

First there was the Tsunami disaster in Indonesia and other areas, now there is Hurricane Katrina. For the past 2 days I have been watching the news
and this is the worst disaster ever hitting the US and Louisiana+ Mississippi.

Wouldn't it be nice if Simmers(fspassengers) could some how help in gathering funds for the victims of this disaster by actually flying FS2004. I
know most of us may have a tight budget, so why not fly FS2004 to help out. Here is what I can recommend.

(1) If you fly to the state of Louisiana and Mississippi in FS2004 with fspassengers, every 100 miles, you fly, you have already donated $100 and in
order to prove this, the members of Fspassengers can create a separate e-mail address so that people can e-mail you their flights or/and export your
flight to show and prove that you have flown. So, the more distance you fly and the more flights you fly, the more money you have donated.

What do you think???

It is a truly sincere thought, and I thank you for taking the time to post the though for all devastated in the Katrina Hurricane disaster.
Although, I’m not sure it would be easy to find someone to run this, who is willing to pay for it.

Cross.

Some time ago, I saw this ad in the (British) newspapers:

" Beat the cancer:
JUMP OUT OF A PLANE !!!!!!!

-and than in small letters:
(prefarably with a parachute and only after you collect donations that will support your first jump....blah...blah....) "

It was meant to be funny. Maybe it was. Maybe they eventually collected some money that was well spent.
But that also definetly proved they were not really involved with the problem! And wrong motives disqualify the works!

What I want to say is if one feels blessed and want to show appreciation by helping the others, than he shouldn't/doesn't have to wait for special occasions! Like
tsunami. Or this disaster. He would have been helping BY USING HIS FREE TIME AND HIS TALENTS CONSTANTLY: comforting people with The Good News from door
to door, changing sheets in the hospitals if needed, doing the shopping to his neghbours, by being a good listener to others' problems.....
Why not start doing THAT!? Do we say hello to ALL of our neighbours? Do we know the problems they cope with? Do we know what it will be that will bring a thorough
change to all people's lives, and soon, so we can comfort them with that?
Let's start helping the best way, and we don't need no money for that. As Ruaim said, the govermants are in charge of finances. Having money doesn't make a change for
the good! (Trust me; my father is a judge; I know about that.) But helping others does!

It is interesting that there are 4 kinds of love mentioned in the Bible: eros (between opposite sexes), phillia or philadelphia (between friends), storge (between parents and
children) and finally - agape! This last one is based on the principles, not only emotions. You show it beacause IT IS A RIGHT THING TO DO, not because someone
deserves it or not (like other 3)
NOW is the time to express it and to show what are our symbolic hearts made of.

Let me say only one more thing: it's not a metter of choice; like - I'll help my way, you do it yours! :
If we do something, but do the smallest amount, the least we can do - if we calculate, - we are actually blunting our conscious: we think we did something and we didn't
- it's nothing!

And we all have surplus of our time, abilities and talents to help the others. Just enough.

This typical type of response is getting really old. The United States gives and gives and gives to the rest of the world constantly. When
other nations face disaster such as the Indonesian Tsunami, our government and citizens alike send money, food, clothing, etc. as well
as man power to help in whatever ways they can. When ANYONE needs help, the USA is usually the first to step up and lend a hand. But
when something horrible happens here, the general world wide attitude seems to be "Ah, let the those rich arrogant Americans take care
of themselves. They don't need our help or sympathy."

I have to disagree with you. Keep in mind the position I'm coming from (US Marine). We all have our different tolerance levels, and when
it comes to making up nonsense about the country I fought for, I have to draw the line on civility.

I think this is a real "time-bomb" that could ruin the excellent quality of this forum.

I mean if you Americans get political (even as an answer on other statements) all others have the right to get political too.

And I don't think that this discussion can lead to a good end, it's all based on opinions and they are very subjective (fortunately!).

Let's stay on the topic we all like mostly, flightsimming!

PS: My thoughts are with all the people who have lost their life and/or everything else in this disaster. Switzerland has been struck by a similar
disaster (of course somehow smaller) just 10 days ago too. It's been sad days!

I think that this thread started out with a sincere approch to help the people affected by the natural disaster in the Southern United states.
However it seems to have turned into a political melting pot thread, the very kind of thread that will turn nasty.
You can't claim that Ruaim's post is unpleasent and then agree with the rather unpleasent post from 'Plane Nuts', simply because he happens to agree
with your view point. Ruaim is (albeit off-topic) vocalising a view point much of the world has regarding the states. I have as part of my job
travelled extensively in the states, the people are great, and the country is fantastic; but i'm afraid that the government does have an un-canny
ability to annoy large parts of the world, either rightly or wrongly. Like most people outside the US, i agree with some of the things, and disagree
with others (such as the refusal to sign the Kyoto protocol).

...I just think that the forum should stay pleasent, which means one of two things, either threads like this have to be pulled (or people should stay
on topic), or all view points need to be equally respected.
