Now my pilot's dead - what now?

Hi!

been using instant record mode and had my pilot flying quite well until today when he (well I ) crashed attempting a NDB approach on some small
russian airfield.
Is there ANYTHING I can do to continue? I'm not going to fly those 155 hours again (most of them in a Cessna 182)! I'd rather delete FSPassengers...

You could have imediately ctrl-alt-del and quit FS9 abruptly before anything could have been saved. But it's too late now, I guess?

I also have a problem: I can't get rid of a dead body!!! Seriously! After my pilot got killed, I can't transfer him, I can't dismiss him I can't heal
him. I can't use his name. And the sickest thing is he's bearing my name!
How do I dump him?

Isnt there something in company creation for resurrecting your pilot? I could be mistaken but I thought I saw something in there about it

I guess there must be a way to changes the "dead-value" in one of the coded config files. Maybe with a hex-editor?

I know there is the possibility to play without career mode but that's not what I want. But no way I'm going to start all over again.

Why not?

It hasnt taken you THAT long since FSP hasnt been out a long time. Besides we flight sim to fly around. I can see not wanting to redo it if
it was a game, but not just simming. Ive made C7 3 times already and each time I stop and start up a new company based on a different
idea and something I want to try that I found FSP has

right, it didn't take me THAT long. but anyway I don't want to start from 0. Of course flying around is what it's all about but it's a game anyway.
And I feel that when I paid for it I should have the possibility to play it the way I want. ...

Why not do what I do.

Every second day or so, I backup the config data file where the flight records are kept.
That way if something really outrageous happens (or I think I died unfairly ) I just copy back the backed up
file and at worst lose no more than the last few flights.
Its only a 20 second job at the click of a button

Cheating ??? perhaps, but no different that wanting to ressurect a dead pilot.

Try to look at it from a different perspective: it's the company that matters! For instance, your goal may be to go round the world without
facing bancrupcy. Or you can make some other mission. You may have noticed that the missions offered are not spinning around the
pilot, but around the company!

Finally, Brad will readily confirm that the pilots are very replaceable!

So... you still have your company!

FSP already has an option for people that don't want to have there experinced pilots killed by a bad landing, or an emergency. Just switch off the
instand record facility, that way you can choose if the flights recorded; if you have a bad experince simply don't record it!

If you want the realism of Instand record, then i don't see how it can be a fault if you mess up and your pilots killed, that's what would happen in
the real world! If you die in the real world you can't hex edit the result!

What i would like in a new release is the option of starting your pilot at a suitably high rank, perhaps C5. Upon creating this pilot, your company
could then be charged the amount of money a C5 is worth.

I agree with Capt Wotan.

You didn't have to use the instant record! Plane crashes happen even (or more, much more!) in the sim world too...

Now. You can't edit it. You can't try to buy on ebay a database folder of FsP, since there is none avalaible.

Altought it's clearly "bad" (well... at least cheating...), maybe you can try to convince someone with a c7 pilot to send you the database folder! You'll have to live with the name, but you'll be able to create a company and integrate him.

Or you can create a company without the career mode.

Sure. But rules are rules, and a game comes with rules. I remember the first X-Wing game for my 486: It was hard and if your pilot died at
the last mission (maybe mission 36) on the Death Star there were no way of getting back and "resurect" him. You had to replay all the
game from mission 1. Trust me, I didn't complain to LucasArt... but I learned how to backup my pilot !!!

It's your fault for being a bad pilot....If you were dead in real life there are no second chances anyway.
