I hate to say it, but a new crash (i believe are called CTD's?)

Guys,

Just installed the FSP demo which runs perfectly. I can do everything as described. BUT, when it comes time to shutdown FS9, it freezes
FS and then comes up with the force quit about 2 mins after freezing.

No error messages or anything like that show up, just the good old "End Now" click here type dialog box with the option to "Restart MS
Flight Sim"

I have gone through the forums and have tried the suggested fixes such as remove voice packs and replace the atc.dll

It happens no matter where or what the aircraft is.

It has only started happening with the install of FSP.

Also, it takes some time or a couple of clicks on the menu bar in FS for the "FsPassenger" menu to pop up, not sure if this is related.

Removing FSP removes the problem and re-installing it ensures the problem returns.

I seen a post re the new FsPassenger.DLL maybe having some problems?

Any help would be great as FSP is absolutely fantastic in flight etc etc but when its time to exit (Via the menu and "Exit") it freezes and
doesnt shutdown properly. In return, i have to keep setting up the FSP settings which is a pain!

Even though you didn't get a message, there will be one almost sure in your windows eventlog (application). Please check it and see what it says,
whether it mentions some dll's or not

As with most dll errors, this one is a nasty one too. Some things to check, is your cpu temp not too high, check your system for virusses and spyware,
check for duplicate afcad files.
It's not easy to find out where this one is coming from exactly. You might go to the avsim forums and do there a search on ntdll.dll. Quite some posts
will show up as results and hopefully one of them might solve your issue.

CTD's are a mother....

I found one related to the latest nvidia drivers in combination with certain aircraft textures. Amazingly the eventlog did point me into another
direction first !
It is sometimes more helpful to browse the local telephone directory for finding the cause than looking at the eventlog

UPDATE !!!!

You may want to check you afcad files again! A redundant afcad file can crash fs9 even when you're not even in the region !!!
After sorting ONE cause for CTD's out I discovered another. I installed MegaAirport Frankfurt and fs9 started crashing again.
I ran scanafcad and found absolutely NO double afcad files.
I was about to give up and delete FS9 again when I remebered the 'fault-check' function of AFCAD.exe (version 2.22) and wanted to check
for any errors.
My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I found TWO afcad files for EDDF - the default one (which contained some errors -
parking position not connected to the rest of the airport) and the new one by Aerosoft.
I renamed the default afcad file and whoops...back to happy flying !

DO NOT[/b - I repeat - [b]DO NOT rely on scanafcad to detect double (redundant) afcad files

Interesting you say you had an issue with the Nvidia drivers. I had a problem with the new version and went back to the old one. This was
well before FSP was installed.

I had deleted all duplicate afcads but had not gone to the lengths you have re the afcad.exe, i will give this a go.

basically, all my problems came about when i installed FSP - i am not looking down on the product, i think it is great. I am just having
trouble finding the problem

AFCAD 2.22 was not good to me.

I think its time for a complete restall and remake the .cfg

I am going to make this as simple as possible, it might be worth stickying it.

The new Version of FSPassenger and a little exe called dw15.exe, located in your main FS dir, do NOT get along to well.

Rename dw15.exe to anything other than that - I renamed it "Youstuffedmysim.bak.GoAWAY" haha, i am not kidding either. I dont think the
program will ever find it now lol.

Problem resolved.

Although that most annoying problem is resolved. The main menu for FSP within FS9's tool bar does take some time to popup. Usually
when i click in another area of the FS toolbar it will popup out of no-where, otherwise i could be waiting upto 2 minutes for the menu bar
to popup on its own.

Ill live with the second problem.

Further to the resolution of the exit crash, no afcads or any other previously described problems (terrain issues, voicepacks etc etc) had
anything to do with it, so please dont let this get confused with other CTD's.

you would not believe HOW many times I was 150% sure I found the cause for the ctd until it happened again
Sometimes I cured the symptoms but not the cause

Hope it works for you now.

I now do a COMPLETE backup of my fs9 folder before installing anything new. This way I just have to copy the old version back over and
delete the fs9.cfg to be back to normal.

Awww dont tell me that! hahah So far, so good! I really have put FS through its paces in the last 24hrs with numerous restarts/exits,
changes of aircrafts, settings etc etc. I am really giving it a belting and so far it seems that this DW15.exe is really proving to be the pain
causer in all of this.

Nevertheless, knowing my luck, it will happen again haha.

Backing-up the Dir is a great idea and one that i shall invest in. I install a new addon once every few days, so its worth it but the only time i
have had the problems with installing addons was when FSP went in.
