How can you declare a fuel emergency without getting penalized?

How can you declare a fuel emergency without getting penalized? I did a flight realizing i wouldnt have enough fuel to make it to
destination then landed after I delcared and emergency and the damn thing penalized me! I knew i didnt have enough fuel to make it but
apparently FS PAssengers didnt!

Well, you should be penalized. This is a major planning error. What do you think would happen if an airliner pilot forgot to load enough fuel. Yes,
he'd declare an emergency and would land at another airport... then, he'd have to deal with a full blown safety investigation.

It's not up to FsPassenger to determine if you have enough fuel... it's up to you BEFORE you take off.

Well thanks to the wonderful fuel planner of FS2004 i got screwed once again thats why i didnt have enough fuel!

IMHO, it's not really hostile... True, but not hostile!

As you noted yourself, FS2004 was at fault. It's happened a couple of times to me before; and as FS2004 allows you to top up your tanks while
cruising, hey WTF?

But FsP is the Real Stuff, so...back to the drawing board!

With FsP running, you cannot add fuel to your tanks anymore during a flight...

This said, you can trigger an emercency in flight IF you don't have fuel during the flight... but it's also true you will get penalized because
you didn't put enough fuel onboard... After all, the Company (and the Pax) won't be happy!!!

I dont think you would declare an emergency if there wasnt enough fuel to get to the destination. You should know by the fuel flow
whether you are going to make it or not and could take appropriate action BEFORE it becomes an emergency.
You would certainly divert to the nearest airport, but by diverting, there is no emergency (as long as you have sufficient fuel to get to the
diversion airport).

I'm sorry if you thought my post was hostile, it definitely wasn't my intention.

Personnaly, I never had problems with the Fs2004 flight planner. Now, don't forget that FsPassengers requires you to have a 45-minute fuel reserve at
landing. This is one way that FsP ensures that you do have enough fuel onboard. But again, without being hostile, as far as FsP is concerned, you are
the Pilot in command and it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your passengers (and of your airplane) through all phases of flight... from
planning to unboarding.

Lol... if you thought his post was hostile, me being the king of emphasizing realism, will just keep my mouth shut. I will summarize my
thoughts though:

A fuel emergency is one emergency that can be prevented in 99% of cases. Always plan to have enough fuel to get to your destination,
and complete a go-around, then fly another missed approach and land at your farthest alternate. Fuel planning is left up to the pilots at
my airline, and I'll normally plan to land with no less than 6000 lbs of fuel on board (1000 gallons... and you complain about your vehicles
gas being expensive?!?!?). That's on a normal VMC day. On a IMC day, arrival fuel may be as high as 10,500Lbs (I haven't had any
higher amounts yet, but it is possible).

It sounds like you could use some help with fuel planning. If you'd like me to help you out, just let me know and I'd be happy to post the
real world fuel-planning procedures used by Southwest Airlines.

What was the reason for your fuel insufficiency? Headwinds? Higher fuel burn than anticipated? All-around bad planning? Let me
know.

Ya know normally I would take the amount of fuel the planner gives me divide that by the time and get the lbs perhour or in my case i like
to use gallons then add in an extra 1:05 of time for the 20 mins of taxi time and 45 mins of reserve and usually dont have a problem, it
figures this one time i put my trust in the fuel planner just to see what would happen i got SCREWED LOL no big deal we landed safely
and i didnt record the flight anyways............happy flying CHEERS!

There are a lot more complex methods than just adding 1H 5M to the number the FS fuel planner gives you. That's not very accurate in
the first place. If you head over to the PMDG website (http://www.precisionmanuals.com), they've got a great fuel planning utility for the 737 that
factors in a few more variables. Check it out!

Do you know of software or a website that covers more airplanes than just that? I have been having a huge issue with fuel with the flight
planner being EXTREMELY off, and was wondering if such a thing exists where you can enter the plane and the flight time and it tells you
an approximate. I know that won't be entirely correct either because lots of things factor in, but anything would be better than the FS flight
planner (which I don't think accurately takes into account airplanes that aren't included in its own package...tried a DC-9-30 and it didn't
even come close).

Also, I have been having issues with add-on planes. I cannot load enough fuel to make it to the destination although I know it's a plane
that can fly that range (because I get my flights straight from SkyTeam) and there will only be half the passenger capacity. Ends up being
about less than half fuel capacity with half passenger capacity and no cargo and already at 100% MTOW. I made the mistake of flying
anyway way over MTOW and I know now never to do it again (big penalty). I'm guessing it would have to be a problem with how the plane
is programmed but that goes way over my head as far has software programming goes. Any suggestions?
