Rate of Descent

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the passenger panic icon if a plane descends too steeply?

I've just started flying the Airbus and when I do an automated descent, the plane starts to descend at a steep angle causing the
passengers to panic, while I get to grips with the FMGC I'd like to turn this off.

That shouldn't happen if it's automated. The whole point of an automated landed is to have a steady sustained glide to the runway.

You should be ok if you ILS then LOC then APP ( only press APP after the AP has LOC'd on )....I use the Airbus 340-600 and when you're LOC > APP make
sure the second AP button is pressed to ensure Autoland is enabled.

If you descend too steeply then that suggests you're too high to make the landing and you've probably missed the glide slope ( Go around and try again

It's probably an error in the design of the airbus, or perhaps you did not properly input data into your FMC, causing the bus to start his
descent too late.

Which airbus add-on are you referring too Dene?

I think Dene is refering to the start of descent from his cruizing altitude. (so called TOD). and not his final ILS approach.

I'm using the Wilco Airbus series volume 1 [A319 series], and yes I am referring to the TOD, final approach is OK.

After landing however the passenger feedback is positive and it seems to forget they were scared initially, but it's annoying because to
me it doesn't seem to be descending too steeply, around 2,000 2,500 fpm which should be OK.

It could be the rate at which the a/c is put into the decent which scares the pax.

How can I change the initial descent rate in the FMGC?

That much I couldn't tell you as I don't fly the Wilco Airbus series, though I'm sure someone on here who does will be able to point you in the right
direction.
