Hey Dan.. What about an automated pause for failures on long haul flights?

I love FsPx. I've created my own airline and fly destinations on long haul flights. Once the airplane is halfway to cruise altitude I choose a
wing view and have it selected for hours as a background while I'm studiying. The PMDG MD11 and Tileproxy work wonderfully for that
matter.

Before going to bed I land and set up the next flight which is about to reach ToD (or it is already there) waiting for me thanks to the
automated pause included in the PMDG code.

However this morning I had a surprise: The FsPx window that announces that your pilot has died. As I worked out FsPx caused a minor
electrical failure that would have had no relevance at all if I were there to see it... but since I was not it ended up in a crash.

The autopilot disconnected and a completly safe airplane otherwise glided until it crashed in the ocean.

Dan, since you already have the code to put a text warning if FsPx provokes a failure, could you please add an automated PAUSE so we
who fly long haul have a chance to see it and do something about it?

That way we can also enjoy the failure scenarios.

Despite that this is somewhat "cheating" I'd kind of like the option too. While I would love to dedicate 6-14 hours to staring at the computer screen constantly checking instruments, the reality of it is I
have a girlfriend, a TV, books, apartment cleaning, and other things that demand my attention. It would be different if I got paid for it, of course, but as I don't, I sometimes need to multitask during
long flights. Or sleep on occasion. A pause on failure would be kind of neat.

Good idea, with bad side effects:

You are suppose to detect the failures, if the game pauses, it will be a little bit too easy to find it

But maybe for long hauls... ??

Right, I agree, but it could have a severe point "penalty" such as the visual failures has for things other than oil temp/etc. Just get rid of any bonuses that you would have gotten for the emergency if
the option is enabled. Sometimes I'd like random failures for the "fun" of it, rather than for the extra points for not killing a plane full of fake people.

Some people care about ultimate realism, some care only about their stats and pilot level or whatever, and there are those of us who like to pretend we are airline pilots but remember that flight sim
< real life sometimes. I try to keep things real, such as refusing to do time acceleration, but the real world does step in and prevent me from staring at the monitor for the entire trip across the northern
atlantic.

Either way, it won't be a big deal. I can just turn off failures for long flights if I need to.

Edit: Also, I doubt most of us have a second pilot around for bathroom breaks and such. What if something happens during that, huh? My girlfriend supports my FS habit but I haven't convinced her to sit in for me if I need a few hours of shut eye over Greenland

might not be so simple as one think... it can ruin the game.
maybe a "difficulty" parameteres but with some reduced bonus ?

That was exactly what I had in mind. An option in difficulties.

About adding a penalty to it.. Those of us who cant spend the whole flight in front of the computer would be penalized for no reason since
we have no other way to do it.

After all this has to be fun, isnt it?

Add it like the option you get to see the failure in the mini panel ...and decreased points for using that option.
This way ppl can use it for long flights .....and turn it off for short flights.

But i would like that option too

I like the idea of a "pause on event" option. Could it be attached to other non-failure events such as transition altitude, 10,000 feet
crossing, drinks service, movie start/finish, etc... Then we have to search to see if it is a failure or just a regular flight event. A lot of us
multitask when "simulating" a long flight. I don't think it would be any more a cheat than turning off the time compression penalty in-so-
much as we would still have to identify the "event" and deal with it.

Shoot, maybe even just an option to autopause the flight every hour or amount of fuel used would be nice. RL does have to take
precedence over our simming unless you're independantly wealthy, have no fam/friends (outside the FS community), and/or a reclusive
college student on break. No disrespect to any of the above, we all wish we had that kind of time to dedicate to this hobby.

Just suggestions, I hadn't ever considered the option until it was brought up.

ive never come across a failuer whiel away from the computer. i have missed ATC clerances thoue. ant RC4 dont like it when i descend
at my pland TD, the like it when i descend at thier TD

back to the topic. this is a tuffey.

i thought of disabiling failuers on long flights before FSpX came out. but then a 747 on the news suffered a navigatiino problem over the
atlantic and had to follow another aircraft all the way acrros the water, scared the passengers

pauesing at detection of a failuer lets you know there is a problem (obviously)

what is the copilot reminded you every 30 min in flight to checkover everything. it wouldent help if you were away from the PC, but youed
atleast have a time tabel of comuing back to the PC and looking over stuff

The point is if you are working, sleeping, whatever.. you cant be at the computer every 30 minutes, if you can then you dont need this.

I think it would spoil the game , if you wanna do an long hour flight and the game pauses on an event wauw what a thrill then I think
it's beter to play with 0% failures. I also do long flights when I sleep and when there happens something but luck try again.

I do support this option. Best would be if you could turn it on/off during the flight, so you have top realism when you're there, but don't get
burned if you (have to) walk away from your PC for a while. You know, I'd still like to have failures on during long flights (like a leaking fuel
tank in the middle of the ocean; trying to make it to the nearest filed). And yes, it is more fun having to detect it yourself, but sometimes you
have no choice (my wife still insists on having meals together for instance )

For event I don't think I'll do it, too boring and too "spoiling" feature. FsP was really not designed for "off-line" pilot
(I mean why not starting a company with 100x multiplier than only do mid/short range flight, the work load is much more intense and at
least you are "at office" all the flight.)

If I add it will be an option in difficulty that can be changed during flight (in contrary of some other values) so you can start a flight without it
and when you need to walk away you can put it on....

well its the best thing i could come up with.

me personaly, on days i have to work or go to school, i dont do airliner flight, unless its real short, and then it with minimal planning.

but it dose give you a time tabel to atleast check up on it every now and then.
if your doing other things at the time

but i must say what has already been said. just et it for 0% failuer if your doing long haules, its the best option
