need walk around preflight inspection

i dont know if fsp has this allready but it would be nice in the future:

to be able to do a complete walk around the plane to check out the lights and to see if the proper surfaces move etc.

fsp could fail a light or a surface could jam and stick, etc (very very slight, etc based on the aircraft itself)

I'd quite like this... I fly 152's in real life and I enjoy the walkaround. It gives you a chance to get to know the airplane before you trust your
life with it. Even 747 pilots perform a walkaround.

Not sure how it would work... maybe FsP could detect going to the external view, and monitor keystrokes. for example we would have to
press 8, 6, 2 and 4 on the numpad. (front, right, rear and left views of the plane.)


Obviously, idea for an update, not current version.

Hmm, I think this might be a good idea also. Maybe make it where if you fail to do a preflight 'walkaround' your chances of failure go up by
a certain percent, say 10% of so. I think preflights are supposed to be a required practice for pilots...at least they are when you are in
training.

personally, even if my instructor say he's done the walkaround, I like to go out and do it for myself, because at the end of the day, it's MY
life I'm putting in that aircraft.. and if you want something done properly, do it yourself. I know my flight instructor won't miss anything, but it
better to get into the habit of doing it, rather than getting into the habit of letting someone else do it for you.

I think I agree with gibbmusic in that if we don't do a walkaround, then the chance of failure rises slightly. I say "I think I agree" because in
real life, if you don't do the walkaround then chances of failure don't increase, but what other incentive is there in FS to do the
walkaround??

well now im not sure if the chances should go up, i think we could keep it real,

suppose im doing my walk around and i see that my strobe lights dont come on, ok, then i should have an option then of getting them
repaired, however because i noticed it i should get good pilot points for that,

now take the above example and if you wouldnt do it and fly, then you would get some serious negative pilot points for :
1. flying with out strobes
2. that you didnt catch it from the beginning

The problem is, if something is wrong with your aircraft, I don't think FS is advanced enough to actually display it on the external model.

I agree with you in that I'm not keen on an increased chance of failure if you don't walkaround (because that's unrealistic) but what else
can you do. you (most probably) can't spot failures or broken parts on the walkaround because FS can't display them, but there has to be
some purpose to doing the walkaround.

yeah, what we really need is this, maybe an external module outside of fs itself.

ok so this is how im imagining it to work

first before you start fs at all you start the walk around module
then you select your aicraft you want to inspect
this then would/could show actuall physical problems, missing hinge pins, etc, bad tires, this would be reflected then in the actual
failures once you start up fs


probably overkill, but ??

but another thing i was thinking of and that is with payware a/c are we going to have to know the systems better now?
i want to fly the F1 ATR, well there are a bunch of complicated systems modelled in that a/c

if something fails using fsp, if i have good knowledge of the a/c could i "fix" it in air? or does once something fails is that it until i get on the
ground?

I guess you know ActiveCamera offers the possibility to make a virtual preflight inspection.
So... are you trying to say that the two could/should interact?

when you say virtual preflight inspection, are you just talking about viewing the plane externaly from different viewpoints??? because the
whole point of the walkaround is to identify problems, which FS currenly does not model, so regardless of view point, the walkaround will
always be clean.
