Grr! I am officially miffed. That's right-- you heard me. Miffed.
I took my Citation X out on a nice little jaunt from the south coast of France to London (EGLL). On final, I was warned that my gear wasn't dropping
correctly and I'd need to make a few hard landings to bump them down. I dropped onto the runway two or three times on the first pass, then came in
hard on my second attempt and got them locked into place. Success!
I circled around, lined up on final for 9L one last time, and NAILED the landing. We're talking '-50ft/min' nailed. As the nose gear came into contact
with the runway, it went staight through it. My nose fell and I saw sparks fly as the tip of my beautiful new Citation scraped down the runway. It
came to rest halfway down the runway, and I immediately put on the parking brakes as I heard the distant call of sirens coming to help my passangers
off the plane (I'd declared an emergency when I first found out my gear was broken).
Being the ham that I am, I went to watch the replay of the landing. With the graphics, the plane, and that landing, how could you not? Well, I watched
the landing and was thoroughly impressed at the realism. When the replay ended, it told me to press P to return to normal flight. I did. When I did
this, the nose of the plane FLEW off the runway and caused the tail to hit the tarmac with astounding force... I'd forgotten to end the flight before
I watched the replay, and suddenly had a tailstrike on my flight record
Anyone else experience this? I typically fly with 100% failure rates just to keep me on my toes and give me more experience at handling them, and it
always makes for interesting landings (gear failures, birdstrike on landing, dislocated gear). I can't believe I forgot to end the flight before
watching the replay. Oh well. Grr.
