Most pilots I know woulden't bother with this hobby as that is the last thing thy want to think about is work.

He, he, I'm not a real pilot, but as far as I know, you would be amazed knowing how many of them are using MSFS.
Some of them fly for VA, and we have some here on this forum too. I would point you to KenG, since I know for sure that he is the real one. ![]()

Good Question.
In my experience most commercial pilots get enough seat time that they don't need or want to fly within a simulator. Unless they are about to go for a check ride that is. ![]() For people that pay to fly- I know a lot of pilots that use flight sims to keep sharp and current with instrument flying. FS9, RC4, and a good plane are a great tool for this. I personally used FS to great effect in being able to get my private pilot's lic in the minimum amount of time. It saved me a lot of money. I'm a part owner in a Piper Tomahawk & Warrior II (cheap flying) Here is a breakdown of my hours (all hand flown) Beach King Air E90- 0.7 Piper Cherokee 140- 1.2 Beach King Air 200- 2.4 Cessna 152- 7.1 Piper Warrior II- 32.6 Piper Tomahawk- 125.4 Total- 169.4 I would be interested to hear about other real world pilots here. -Todd Giencke Post Edited ( 03-14-06 13:16 )

I flew for about 5 minutes when my Aunt flew in to our little airfield with her friend as pilot. He took me up in his C150 and let me fly

Im a student pilot out here, let me say that I must *pay* to fly real hours..
The real thing is so.. out there. Such as you must remember every little thing or your instructors, fellow simmers who fly, ect ect will note all of your mistakes like the plaque. EVERYTHING must be precise, im tellin ya. So really, I use FS9 because.. you can hop in, start it up, do a flight in a jet with little to no experience; land anywhere and fly through any weather despite ATC or Flight Plans, and never need to look at a single checklist. And still pull off perfect landings. As of now, I've only done about ~40 landings IRL, however.

Trained in a couple of older C172, and one new C172. Passed the check-ride in 2004. Flown a Cherokee 140 a few times. First experience in high
performance was C182. (way more fun than the others....way more expensive than that others - nearly twice the hourly rental cost). Fastest plane flown - Beech V35. FS just doesn't give the same feel as 5000 feet agl and 200knots GS. Although I felt that it wasn't nearly as comfortable as the C182. With weather, finances and a busy schedule, I use FS2004 to help me keep sharp. Even after taking several weeks off of flying, I was able to make a perfect squeeker landing with a new instructor on a WINGS flight. Dean, PPSEL ![]()

Have about 1.5 hours towards ppl, not much but I'm hooked. Had to stop for financial and other reasons (need to register as I'm non-us
citizen), but hope to start back up within a year or 2. Flown in 172 and 152, will probably finish training in the 152 as it is much cheaper 79 as opposed to 112 and hour. Ian. |
