Look for AFCAD, it is freeware, and I can even send you a copy if it is legal, since it is freeware, but I will have to read the license info first.

AFCAD can be found at most flightsim file databases, like AVSIM.com or flightsim.com, and it's freeware as stated. But AFCAD can only
add taxiways, runways, lights, gates etc, not buildings, jetways or other structures. If you want to add buildings you can purchase a program like LAGO's FS Scenery Enhancer that allows you to add buildings easily.

Yeas, AFCAD is good for re-plotting the parking configurations at airports, but not good for scenery enhancing.

On AVSIM the file name is afcad221.zip (FS2004 only), for FS2002 it's afcad204.zip

AFCAD is in need of another update. It's been several months. What I really wish I could do with AFCAD is fix the flattened terrain around stock
airports. Some of the flattened terain extends waaay beyond the runway thresholds. ![]() With new detailed terrain meshes available, FS terrain can be portrayed much more acurately. The problem is that some real world airports are precariously set to fit in with the contours of the surrounding land (like a runway lining a cliff, or along the base of a mountain.) They're still an FS eyesores because of the flattened terrain extending too far from around the airport, creating airports atop ugly plateaus or worse burried in sink holes. It's next to impossible to do an approach to a runway in a hole! If AFCAD also allowed editing of flattened terrain around airports, we could trim it up to the edges of the concrete surfaces, and solve a lot of plateau/sink hole problems. I think that is out of reach for AFCAD, I think it's coded further within FS. You can make your own flatten switch and exclude file, but it won't
change the distance setting regarding reserved areas around airports.

You have to know the latitude and longitude where you want it, and also figure out the size of it.

You can also place objects with just SCASM and notepad. There is also EZLandclass (for the different textures and landclass), Rwy 12
(object placement), Flight Simulator Scenery Creator, FS Design Studio, EOD and Gmax for creating objects (you can create complex objects of all types with GMAX, but it is not cheap), and the list goes on. Some of the older .bgl decompilers will work with FS9 also. There is also Airport for Windows. It is a little harder to learn how to use but you can create custom macros (objects such as buildings, ramp equipment, etc...) and then add them with it. It can help you out if you want to add more objects and custom signs, gate objects, etc... Also there are literally hundreds of different macros that people have made that are downloadable on the net (hangars, fuel tanks, oil drums, cargo boxes, lights, fences, etc...) I use Airport about 85% of the time when I want to place something in a small airport that has no objects with it. It can also create airports on the side of cliffs and in mountains, but it does take a little while to get them correct the first time till you get used to the program. I don't want to create a long post, but you could surf the forums over at flightsim.com, avsim, and the others and get some feedback as to what you want to do and the correct program to do it with. There are several free designers out there that will work with FS9. |
