Paul, it was me suggesting purchasing more ram, not Joe. I too felt like those comments were pointed towards him. But I don't think he would just go out and buy ram just because I told him too, I think he'd want more information to back my theory which may infact not cure the problem. This is why there are others to help. However guessing isn't a sure answer, but it could throw out a possibility of it being the correct fix. Just my two cents. As for my update, I re-installed FS9 but I'm yet to do a flight, so I'll let you know how it all goes. Maybe there were some leftover UT USA files which might have corrupted my sim?

Guess what? It says I ran out of disk space or some crap like that. Haven't seen that in quite a long time Told me to run disk cleanup Disk space sure isn't the problem. Must've been a bad scenery file.

Joe, this is the line in my boot.ini :
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /3GB /userva=2560 The userva switch tells windows to use 2.5 GB for user mode space and 1,5 for the kernel (when total RAM is 4 GB). You can use the 3GB switch without the userva switch but not the other way around. So best is to use them both in this case.

Guys,
None of the comments were personal, I apologize if it came off like that. I was just pointing out some of the errant advice in the thread... Dutch summed it up perfectly and that is the line you should use Joe. that last switch is really what "stabilizes" the switch in XP. If you just do /3GB chances are you are going to deprive the system or some key drivers the resources they need. As for patch 1.30 with UTUSA I was the one who actually found the issue with certain UT .bgl's that prompted that patch. Despite the patch I did still get limited OOM's using UT. The cure for me was to remove entirely all HL*.bgl's from my UT directories. IF you run UTUSA and UTE, I would not even attempt a flight without the boot.ini switches. Also, keep in mind, FS9 is not perfect so it might take some work on your parts to overcome these issues... For example. I have all of my add-on sceneries disabled by default within FSM. I just went through this on the AES forums as well. FS will do a load of every active scenery in the database upon initial load. Just think of the memory wasted if I am flying from Add-on A to Add-on B and I have 52 other add-ons loaded? Also consider a simple flight from KEWR-LLBG. With my add-ons I would fly overhead of ~ 4 MAJOR add-ons just to get to LLBG. All of those add-ons get loaded during my flight and I am just pi##ing memory away. So what I have done is to disable all of my add-on scenery. When I fly KEWR-LLBG I enable LLBG (KEWR is home and always enabled) and I am on my way. If I want to do KEWR-EGLL the next day I simply disable LLBG and Enable EGLL. By this process I have "de-bloated" an overweight FS that is already exceeding 32 bit O/S limitations. The other thing to keep in mind is that FS9 by default is not largeaddressaware. In order for the boot.ini switches to work you need to modify your fs9.exe as well. Otherwise it will have no affect. If you go to Avsim and or the UT forums and search my name you will see the research I have done on OOM... Also, please read this post: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=s...c_id=12194 and just search Avsim for OOM... Enjoy the info guys... -Paul

Okay, thanks!
By the way, i've read that avsim topic you send me - VERY useful! Deleteing some .dll's now.

Dennis... Are you only flying in the USA? otherwise you should try a remote area like Australia and do a nice flight there... If you get the same
error, then you know it isn't UT USA..

I've uninstalled FS9 and then installed it again. I'll move forward slowly - checking memory and pagefile useage after every add-on
installed. I'll find the problem I'll try that suggestion too DSW - thank you

Thanks, Paul and Martin for the informative advice I will try the 3gb switch and alter the FS9.exe as prescribed when I get home
Saturday. This real-time flying is taking precedence over FS9 right now One thing I never really considered was disabling the add-on sceneries I won't be using each flight. Very good advice indeed! Now I need to round up some grub after a LONG 24 hours. No sleep since I got up yesterday at 5:30 a.m. and hungry don't make Joe a happy camper....

No worries Joe...
Can I give you some more advice I had the E8500 on the same exact mobo and hit a 3.8 wall with my OC and PC6400. I upgraded to an X38 chipset and it is night and day. You can see my specs below. Also, read this thread http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=s...130&page=4 Just some food for thought... II also just upgraded to Wireless Draft-N with Gig E... Now a networked machine running a Gig-E backbone is the equivalent of a PATA HD onboard... I can also tell you this. FSEarth/WideFS with FDC running is eating up 160megs of throughput so a 100meg network is a limitation. That is awesome, Paul I know what you mean about hitting a wall. I can only achieve 3.6Ghz with the mobo I have...even with
the latest BIOS,etc. for the ASUS P5N32-E SLI. If I go any higher, the pc sounds the dreaded continuous beep...indicates a ram issue I think but I have tried every ram combination possible with the Corsair C4DHX sticks(timings, voltages, ratios, etc). So, I ordered a set of Corsair Dominators(8500s, 1066Mhz I believe) to see if I can get beyond 3.6Ghz. If not, then I will seriously consider another mobo. That Asus Maximus Extreme seems like the correct one!
