Which Sid/Star

Hello there,
I have been getting to grips with the PMDG 737 aircraft and i have to say it is awesome. Through all the various tutorials and such i have
just about got to grips with the fmc too.

My question is concerning SID/STARS. I'm unsure as to which one to choose on the fmc. When i pick a runway to depart from i get a list of
different SIDS. Which one is best to choose? Is there anywhere to view them?
Same goes for STARS? Which one do i choose? I also get the extra option of a transition? Whats that?

It will do that for you. I just got the PMDG 737, too, and it is amazing.

Also, make sure to download the star charts. The site that has a proper search engine for them is down; you can just google the STAR chart name.
Find the first PDF and print it.

The routes not a problem, it was just knowing which sid and star to choose that confuses me. how do i decide which is best to use?

Depends a bit where you coming from, what direction. Often the last waypoint in your route will be the first point in your star etc. I'm sure there
will be official rules to follow but that how i do it

For europe (not sure if it is applicable everywhere in europe) there is a SID/STAR for each individual runway.
Otherwise it depends on like Dutch said, where your coming from or where you are going. Try finding some STAR or SID charts.

thanks, think i'm getting the hang of them. Does anyone here have the PMDG 737. It incorporates the hold position in the stars coming
into EHAM. Will it fly this too or do i have to delete the hold manually?

I have the PMDG737NG. You can go to http://www.myairplane.com and get all your SID and STAR charts from there.

I have the PMDG 737 as well. I think it will fly the hold if it's in the route, but I'm always told to deviate before the hold from ATC, so I never
tried them. All I have tried are manual holds.
But if you don't want to do the hold, then delete the hold from the legs page.

It's not.
For the STARS: They lead you from your route to your IAF, so there are usually many STARS for one runway, as well as you might use the
same STAR for different RWYs (even at the same time, especially with parallel RWYs like in EDDF or EDDM).
On the SIDs, you always try to get an SID pointing in the direction you want to depart. But there are often different SIDs with the same
transition (last wpt in the SID). It's because some SIDs have restrictions in climb rate, turn speed, weight class, .... So you have to choose
(and request) a SID you can fly.

For simming purposes it's quite hard to choose the right SID/STAR without the proper charts.
