for some reason textures 2 and 3 for the cessna 172 skyhawk are missing and i don't know where they went or how to get them back can

You don't need to reinstall. Search the FS CDs for the *.cab file containing the aircrafts. You should be able to view those cab files with about any
given ZIP archiver. Then just extract the missing textures to your Cessna's texture folder.

After I posted I realized that all the FS9 data is on the CD's in an easy to search format. Nem, thanks for mentioning that.

No problem. If you disregard enough of the "backup your original texture before installing this custom one" advices in various freeware packages, you
sooner or later (sooner, more like) find out that you don't need to reinstall FS9 and the 40 Gigs of addons to get some original files back.

Another really good suggestion someone gave me years ago if you can not back up your entire FS installation is to copy, not move certain folders from
FS to another location. Personally, I have my entire 10 gig FS directory backed up on an external drive but you can copy just your aircraft, scenery,
texture and gauges folders so that if you ever have an issue like this, you have the entire directory backed up already... Makes for very easy
troubleshooting

10 gig? Well, if mine wasn't at least 30 GB in size I might back it up like you described as well.

LOL, wow, 30 gigs, that is ALOT of FS I have cleaned house a lot of times removing a ton of scenery. I was up at close to 15 gigs of 2004 and 12
gigs of 2k2 but I finaly dumped 2k2 from the drive. (not long ago though,)I did not want to let go. Even with 30 gigs, external drives are so cheap
and fast right now that you can get one cheap, hook it up and let it run for an hour or two. In total I have over 120 gigs backed up on my external.
Hmmm LOL as I am typing this I did a properties on my FS folder and somehow it has grown from 10 gigs to 16 gigs in the past two weeks. Time for
another backup I guess that is what the new UTUSA and the UT Canada packages will do to ya...
Takes a while sometimes but at least you know you have an exact copy of everytihng...

I guess that is what happens when you actually get to fly for a living... You either don't need all this FS stuff or don't have time for it...
