I think the copyright concerns are exaggerated. Yes, the images have copyright protections. That means you can't sell them, not that you can't use
them or look at them. Newscasts use Google Earth all the time. This program only offers you to access those images in a different way.
I'm sure a lawyer would argue it's illegal to remove the copyright notice. Big deal. No one is doing this for profit. It's only for personal use. No
one is claiming it as their own. We just want to fly with more realistic terrain.
As for the downloads...just think of the billions of requests Google must get every day. A few simmers are not going to bring their servers down.
That's more likely a problem between you and your ISP, not for a giant like Google.
Google creates a lot of traffic for other servers just by indexing them. They are accessing your data and everyone else's everyday. I've never
received a check from them for accessing and storing my copyrighted materials. Have you?
