And direct X 10 isn't even close to being ready to test with a game yet. Look for that this winter.

VERY nice! I bet you'll need a PC with a turbine engine to run the program that smoothly

If I remember correctly it was being run on a single 7800 and a high end (not top) CPU (can't remember if it was intel or amd). Just because it looks better doesn't mean you need a million dollar pc to run it. It's called optimizing.

Am I the only one who thinks flying aircraft thru big green targets in the sky to earn points is a step backwards? This is all I see in every demo
and preview. I was disappointed to learn from several blogs and forums that FSX is a move in the direction of arcade play and XBOX compatibility and away from "As real as it gets". I understand the reality of MS having to sell more copies, but was hoping for improvements in things like weather, flight planning, ATC, aircraft systems modeling, etc. Oh well, looks like I'll be squeezing a bit longer life out of FsP and FS9.

Yes, experienced flightsimmers might find it childish, but it may be fun, and if they make FSX appeal to a larger group of people, it helps to pay the bill and that's good for us serious simmers too. Besides, I doubt if all missions are about flying through hoops. I don't know if you have seen the E3 video of the helicopter rescue mission yet, but there were certainly no hoops in there. You just see the hoops, but forget that there's a whole new mission engine below the surface that's just waiting to be exploited by us and commercial developers. It might prove very usefull for addons like FSPassengers and we are certainly not limited to flying through hoops.

I'm also hoping this is not molded more for consol gamers, the more I see of it the more I think it is going that way.
At least that is what they are marketing so far. I have seen, eyecandy and "games". Any official comments on improved flight models or what CFO mentioned above?
See you in the fence...
