I had an idea tonight and I'm just wondering what the feasibility would be in the coding.
The idea is to add an option to make a flight a pure ferry flight. The idea stems from trying to maintain as realistic simulation in the game
as possible. I'd like to be able to move my aircraft to a new airport, possibly one in the same city or general geographic region in order to
pick up a new charter. I realize you can already do this in a way implementing the current format but, the option I envisage (sp?) is to only
score points upon reaching the desired destination (including point-of-origin) in one piece with a bonus of course for flying in dangerous
areas. As I thought about it, I realized that it could allow folks to add military aircraft other than transports to their fleet. You would put
hours on the airframe, pilots would gain their flight time and be subject to failures and proper procedures but free from G-force penalties
(no Pax or sensitive freight). Perhaps it could be in the FSPax drop down menu as a second "start flight" option. Once selected, the
payload manager would only allow you to load fuel and set destination/Flight number. Obviously it would be a no revenue flight but most
folks would not try to ferry a large aircraft a long distance anyway. The idea is to add more realism to the experience without too much
effort. As a side effect, I thought it might open FSPax to an even broader group of simmers by giving a (very) basic but workable way to
simulate combat ops with a single-seat fighter or a bomber.
Just a thought. It's basic I know and I have no clue how it would be programmed in. It just seemed easier or more practical than some of
the other ideas being floated around. What do you guys/gals think?
