Flap Overspeed

Just started using FSP. Great program!

My question is, what is the criteria for flap speed penalty? Is it 220 kts for all flap settings, or do higher settings require lower speeds? If
so, are the speeds fixed for all aircraft within FSP. I'm asking because no matter how hard I try, I am penalized for exceeding flap speed,
even when I have observed the 220 kt limit.

You need to check the flaps speed limit for each plane I would think, the flapsspeed limit (2 notches) for a 737 is 230 knots, but only 185
knots for an ATR, exceeding either will incur a penalty.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying the FSP has flap speed hard coded into the program for a multitude of aircraft?

No, flap speed is taken from aircraft.cfg, "gear damage speed" parameter.
IF it's not present FsP use default 250kts wich should do the job with a
great majority of commercial aircraft.

look especially on those line: (example from the default 737)

The last parameter is the "damage speed" accordingly to MS (see below)

Now why would we want to use the gear overspeed for the flaps when the aircraft.cfg has the encoding for both a flap damage and flap blowout speeds?
What about those aircraft that have a higher flap speed limit than gear speed limit? B190 Flap speed 200 Gear Speed 181.

Direct for the MSFS SDK for the aircraft container:

damaging-speed damaging-speed = 250 Speed at which the flaps begin to accrue damage (Knots Indicated Airspeed, KIAS).
blowout-speed blowout-speed = 300 Speed at which the flaps depart the aircraft (Knots Indicated Airspeed, KIAS).

Hello to everyone

I'm having trouble with FsPX and FSX default 737-800. The issue is those flap speeds. If I understand right what Dan wrote, flap's get damage only
when airspeed is exceeding 250 kts?

I have never exceeded that 250 kts speed limit when deploying flaps, but I am getting penalty points occasionally , and I have no clue what I'm doing
wrong.

Also, I always check flaps reference speeds before I fly with unfamiliar plane, and I use -10 kts speed for every tme when deplying flaps.In other
words, for flap setting 1 (250 kts), I use 240 kts speed.

Is there simple solution for this, other than disabling flap speed penalty from more_option.cfg file?

This is what aircraft reference card tell's about those speed's (flap position = speed):
1 = 250
2 = 250
5 = 250
10 = 210
15 = 200
25 = 190
30 = 175
40 = 162

Why would anybody need to deploy (any) flaps at 250kts? Being close enough to the airport you slow down to 220 according to the charts. That's -in my
opinion- a safe speed to start with deploying flaps when flying jets...

Those figures on the plague are not the indicators of when to use flaps
They are the maximum speeds you can use that flap setting at depending on how the aircraft behaves (to keep it simple ).

I usually start using flaps around 220 and work through them as speed drops and pitch grows. BTW, pitch is a rather nice indication of
when to use flaps Every setting for more flaps makes the aircraft pitch down, and as you want to make sure you have an upward pitch
between 2 and 5 degrees, depending on the aircraft and airport, you can work out when to use what flap settings.
Remember though that in the real world, the 737 series usually take off at flaps 5 and land with flaps 30 All depending on weather
ofcourse.
