My airline company recently bought a DHC-2 Beaver, which i downloaded as freeware from a VA i am a member of. Now i have found a
much better freeware version of the DHC-2. is it possible to get fsp to let me use the new one without having to buy a new plane?

Yes, change the "title=" in the fltsim.x section of the aircraft.cfg of your new plane to exactly the same name as the title in your old plane's

cool - so by this method - you could buy a glider or something really cheap, rename a 747 to match the gliders title and voila: a very cheap
747 in your fleet!

If you like to fool yourself you can do so yes
 But not sure about that because i think the weight of the a/c plays a role too to determine the price

I'm not saying i would like to do this, i for one, like the challenge and satisfaction of working my way up. You are right, the aircraft price is
determined by weight. Therefore you could buy a glider and, after making the purchase, rename a 747 to match the gliders title and then you could fly the 747 in your fleet
