[Closed] New Mods: A suggestion

Stop closing every other thread. I didn't come to read announcements, I came to read things and give feedback, if you shut
down every thread, why would people come back, this is what the whole argument was just about!

Thank you for the feedback.
The threads I closed where the ones that really where solved and had no futher room for extra comment unless getting offtopic, or if there
are allready other threads about it.
For example about using FsP online on VATsim.
In this case the answer was a simple yes and the other question didn't really had something to do with FsP or FS.
A other example is the "turn off" thread about the fuel penalty.
The answer is giving and also there are allready several threads about that subject that aren't closed.
The same with "Please Dan, help me! With my keycode" thread, it is solved and we have allready some threads about it.
I am allways open for any feedback and improvement of the forum.

So please keep the feedback coming as it also will improve our qualifications as a mod and also it can improve the forum.

Agree with Jim,

Solved threads do not need closing. They simply drop down the forum out of sight, that is how a forum works. When a thread becomes redundant, it no longer gets posts made on it, so it disappears.

Strange thing is, some of the closed threads have been 'topped' after over two weeks of no posts, just to say they have been closed

Closed threads are reserved for threads with illegal activity, or abusiveness etc.

Well that's my opinion anyway.

I can agree with you both, but as described in my first reaction on this thread there was a good reason to close those three threads.
Or in one case it had nothing to do with FsP or FS.
There are already several threads about those subjects on which i pointed out.
That is why they were closed to keep the forum clean.
Because in my opinion it has no use to have to many threads about the same subject.
Further I only marked some other threads as "Solved", but didn't close them because it is possible other members still have some
questions about it.
At least I am talking now about the threads I closed.
I do thank you both for the feedback, and hope you'll give me a change to improve the forum.

1) Having nothing to do with FSP or FS is NOT a reason to close a thread. As it's been mentioned this is a thread where people are supposed to be able
to vent and talk-this is not a "support" forum as Dan has said.

2)I disagree-you're closing threads that don't actually need to be closed. People were no longer posting on them so let them die out, stop wasting our
time.

I hope you do make a positive change, but the reason you were made a mod was because of the issues that were brought up about the "customer is always
right. . ." read that thread before you go off. One of the main problems was the continual closing of threads, so don't get power happy and start
closing left and right.

1) So far have only closed two threads after reading through them and seeing that the atmosphere got a bit more heated than it needed to be, and that further posts would antagonise further.

2)Only closed one I marked as [Solved] as it really did require not further explanation,although have been considering re-opening it since before this thread was born - I will probably un-close it in the near future.

3) Yes, one of the main issues brought up in two of the recent threads was about the amount of thread closing, and in some cases lack, and some cases too much, along with showing an issue to be resolved. I've been through all the posts from 01/Dec/2009 and labelled some of them that are obviously solved, but left them open on the off chance that a similar issue cropped up that didn't quite match the one that had been posted originally.

4) A couple of minor edits carried out where e-mail addresses have been left visible to the public (not sure if that caused thread bumping though - it didn't look like it though). Plus a couple of threads where the solution has come to light, but in no definitive place, so had updated those, which were a tad old, but still viable.

Overall, I've tried to avoid the thread bumping situation, as like many people here, I want the issues being discussed at the moment, but I like other users also want to see the possible solutions available to me for a given problem.

Hope that helps people see where I'm coming from so far.

I appreciate the work you guys are doing to clean things up. Thanks! One goal to consider would be a sticky post with a list of the top 10 or 20
issues discussed. In that post you could include a link(s) to the relevant forum discussion(s). Wouldn't have to be done all at once, just build it
over time. FWIW.

The need to update the FAQs has been discussed in one of the other threads here, as you are probably aware of, and I don't deny that what you suggest,
Stweaver321, is a good idea. Putting something like that together will take a bit of time, but it's doable. But there is also the search function in
the forum - granted it's not as visible as on some forums, but for now we have to live with that - and people are neglecting to use that, especially
as the majority of the time, what they're asking has already been discussed many times, and a quick search would have probably given them more help.

After reading this thread through, I have a question for our two new mods'. Which one of you would have closed this thread long before
now because it was becoming antagonistic. Look at how many threads die of their own acord. If noone cares about the topic, it will fade
away into the sunset. One of my ex-wives suffered from "I don't want to talk about it".

Closed this one? Nah, it's interesting to see what people have to say about us two new mods. On the threads dieing - in my time on the forum, there have been a number resurrected by new posters that were started 3 or 4 years ago, then died in a week or so, and those newbies were often 'flamed' or treated to the special sarcasm that exists here.
