Bird Strike..Woohoo!

Just had my first bird strike which caused an engine failure about 15 min.s after taking off from Cancun to Tampa,Fl. What a rush! But, as
I was looking at approach plates for KTPA, and not looking at the instruments, I heard the FO say, "We're stalling!" Fortunately the
aircraft was at around 11,000 feet at that point, so I quickly shut off the AP and got the aircraft (CS B757-300) out of the stall without
slinging passengers all over the cabin Had to shoot the ILS to RWY 12 in MMUN manually due to the overcast conditions, so things got
quite interesting. Oh, well, fry the engine but get the passengers down safely....yipeee! I can't get enough of this stuff

Do you get any sort of feedback that you've had a bird strike? Meaning, do you hear anything - a subtle whoosh...thunk! Does the co-pilot
say anything like, "Uh, you hear that?" Just wondering if there's anyway to know you 've had a bird strike BEFORE the plane starts to
falter - besides closely monitoring the instruments.

Incident Report:

one engine sustained some damage shortly after take-off due to a bird strike. The oil temperature started to increase gradually fortunately, the plane
landed before the engine shutdown. There was an exceptional pilot on board and despite the dire situation he was able to land the aircraft safely.

-Didn't like that you forgot the belt sign during take-off and landing.
-Were terrified by your "dive of death".
-Wonder if they landed or if they crashed (hard landing).

I had a bird strike flying the Mooney in career mode... the engine suddenly made a funny noise and quit without warning. I had to turn
around and land in a field short of the runway. I didn't know it was a bird strike until I read the flight report.

I think IRL you can tell a bird strike by the guano, that "chicken feathers" smell and blood all over everywhere. They might be able to
simulate the guano and blood, but probably not the smell.

No, there wasn't any unusual sound that I could detect other than the co-pilot screaming at me about the airplane stalling and then
saying we've had an engine flame out. That'll teach me to look away from the computer while the aircraft is in a climb...teehee. Since I
use a stereo headset, I keep the sound fairly low so that I don't blow out my ear drums, which is why I likely couldn't hear any sort of bird
impact...if in fact this sound is built into FSP.

birdstrike in a mooney is an intresting experiance. Ive had it happen twice. Once out somewhere in the southeastern US, landed in the middle of a
forest (I think) after the engine shutoff right after takeoff. The second one I managed to land in in small feild in the middle of mexico while trying
to make it back to the airport. However safty prevented that, I took the chance and landed in the field.

I took off from KBFI in a Learjet 45 and about 5 minutes into my climb I had a bird strike and the engine shut down and I had to return to
KBFI. I crashed on final because I had slowed the airplane down way too much and couldn't hold my altitude. I know for the next time.
