Delta hijacked???

Well I know what your thinking Delta didnt get hijacked but seems like it almost came close to that. I live in Orlando FL. saw this on the news that
a U.S. Army person flying on Delta tried slamming the cockpit door opened I think they said it landed at Tampa. He hit the door 3 times and took 3
passengers to tackle him to bring him down to the ground.... His brother said in his words...... My brother lost it....... No affense but the rage
of stupidity continues.....

A New York man was arrested in Tampa Thursday night after he tried to enter the cockpit of a Delta Air Lines plane about to land
at Tampa International Airport.

The Delta crew reported disturbances on board flight 1850 from New York's La Guardia Airport to Tampa at 11:12 p.m.

Neftali Alexander Laimendez, 24, tried to enter the cockpit and fell, then tried again, but was subdued by passengers, airport authorities
said Friday.

"We take something like this very seriously," said airport director Louis Miller. "It's very scary."

Laimendez was traveling with his brother, Robert Javier Cordero-Mendez. They were seated in seats 24 A and B.

About 15 minutes before arriving in Tampa, Laimendez became agitated, left his seat and ran toward the front of the aircraft. His brother
became concerned and tried to convince him to return to his seat, the police report said. Instead, Laimendez pointed to a passenger and
said, "He is the one." Then he ran full speed into the cockpit door.

Laimendez was taken into custody upon arrival at Tampa International Airport under the Baker Act, and transported to the Tampa Airport
police station. He is now at St. Joseph's Hospital undergoing a psychological evaluation, airport authorities said.

The federal government has taken over the investigation.

Laimendez recently returned from Iraq, and his Army service is scheduled to be completed on July 12. He had shown signs of distress in
New York, and his brother wanted to get him medical attention there. But his mother suggested they both come here and seek
assistance in Tampa.

Laimendez had a New York ID card and a Florida driver's license. He was not carrying any prohibited items on board.

"Thanks to the collaboration between the airlines, the aviation authority and the citizens, the system worked," said Miller. "Thank
goodness the doors were reinforced and he couldn't get there. The positive result is the good reaction of the passengers."

TSA officials couldn't confirm if air marshals were on board or if the pilots were armed.

Laimendez now faces charges of interfering with a flight crew, which is a federal offense, said Paul F. Sireci, chief of police.

"The culture of the traveling public has changed since 9/11," Sireci said. "No one overreacted, no one was hurt. Security worked, and like
the neighborhood watch program, passengers decided to get involved."

Air Marshals don't fly on every single flight. They are randomly assigned to flights and no one really knows whether their is one aboard or
not. There probably wasn't one aboard or one of th epasengers who subdued him was actually an Air marshall. At least that's the way I
understand how the system works here in the States. Other countries with significantly smaller domestic traffic volumes may be able to
staff a Marchall on every flight but I don't think that would be/is feasible in American air space.
