CTD problems

Well I just had a CTD again on final after 4hrs of flight

Honestly I'm giving up trying to get this work correctly, I've been trying to solve this for 3 weeks now, and I really can't find what's wrong, it
seems the only time it doesn't want to crash is when I'm testind and not actually doing a flight, I fail to find a logic behind the crashes and they
just won't go away, different planes, different times of the day, different places, different add-ons, it's not hardware related as I ran all the
tests suggested (prime, memtest ect ...), updated all drivers, everytime I think I have found the cause, the problem comes back

I've only been able to complete an handful of flights in the last months and then only very short ones, I'm done trying to get the bloody thing to
work, it justs doesn't likes me :pff: and it's really a lot more frustration than enjoyment now, not to mention all the time wasted

My CTD's were all just a blink and then a black screen with the "FS has encountered a problem and needs to close......" afterward. My
problems appear to have been memory related. That is complicated multiple panels and pop ups with traffic. I have since reduced the
traffic density and turned off the AI airplane labels. This has increased the reliablity a quite a lot.

Are you using the Flight Simulator flight planner? Perhaps it's related to the size and length of the flight plan. Perhaps flying using a
paper flight plan instead?. Maybe the GPS or the MFD is using up a lot of RAM while you are trying to fly a complicated aircraft
simulation. When you let it run overnight did you fly in circles or use a flight plan on autopilot?

Kill all other applications except flight simulator to free up some RAM. I get the feeling your problems are related to long flight plans and
RAM shortages.

Windows programs are sometimes not very good at releasing memory space back to the operating system when they are
finished. "Memory Leak" bugs abound. You might even try searchin the MS knowledge base for "memory leak" .

well my overnights flights were actually medium flights (I don't do long flights yet) using teaglesoft cirrus (very processing heavy aircraft with all
it's high definition guauges and 2 gps) left on autopilot, and the aircraft goes in circles at the last waypoint, usually over a very busy airport
(Paris CDG for instance),with asv6, aismooth and FDC liverunning in the background, and it didn't CTD, but the CTD I just got was with the flight 1
421C which is a lot less processing heavy, I don't really know about memory issues, I'm not very computer litterate as you may have noticed

our CTD's aren't the same kind, I just get booted back to desktop with no error at all, FS9 just fading away, so I don't know if reducing the traffic
would help

Madtrack please try to delete the gaugesound.dll file from your fs9 root folder. I guarantee you, if you havent done so already, it may be the
issue of the problem. if you have let me know and we will work on something else.. Trust me I went through it for a longer period than
3weeks, now im flying like a charm

Well I just gave it a go, and problem if I remove this file is that the eaglesoft cirrus won't load, it just gets stuck on the splash screen when I
press start flying, with no loading bar whatsoever, and the Citation X just gives me a fatal error (FLight 1 ATR and 421C loads fine, didn't try the
Level-D 767 as I didn't install it yet), can I circuvent this ?

Now that I recall I started to get CTD's when I installed the cirrus, but ... even with this file here I shouldn't get CTD's when I'm flying the
actual aircraft that uses it right ?

yeah sorry about yesterday, I really had tought I had fixed the problem, and was really frustrated when it crashed , I'm too stutborn to give up on
this tho

EDIT : actually the FS9 just freezes when I try to push anything in the cockpit of the 421C

so did you try uninstalling the product and deleting or moving the gaugesound.dll file and see what happens? apparently if your fs9 works
after that, then youve found the problem for number 1 issue; however if it is the problem then the module file that the product use is not up
to date and you may need to go to there website to get help. Also if not, by all means to save yourself from all the extra work, just dont use
the aircraft, and you will still be able to enjoy hours of flying without it. And to answer your question, yes if though your not using the aircraft
that depends or rely on that gaugesound file, you ll still get CTD because when loading fs9, it reads all module file and uses then
whether or not your using the actual programs that needs them.....

Well the problem if I remove this file, it's not just the cirrus that will not work, it's half my aircrafts (F1 ATR, Areo 112A, 421C, Citation X, and
prolly some others I didn't test) it doesn't look like its just a file (or aircraft) I can remove and be done with it

Do you think the problem could be that the file is not up to date ? if so where do I get a more recent version ?

youll have the search one of those aircraft website and forum to see the update or to ask the question on that. But I GUARANTEE YOU
just try it, take it out of your fs folder put it somewhere else. Go fly with one of the aircrafts and see what happens. Remember the
gaugesound.dll file should also be in your system 32 folder which is at c:/program/window/system32 (which also maybe a hidden folder,
so you shouldnt have a problem; however to find out the issue, we have to first find out if the gaugesound file is the problem. More so
likely though it is...

oh the gaugesound.dll wasn't in the system32 folder which was why I was having problems, I have put it in there and deleted it from the FS9 folder, I
will report back

Well First flight, no problems so far (except for the hard landing and the damaged tires, was lagging a bit on approach ) doesn't mean it's fixed
tho, I'll let it run overnight and try to have several flights tommorow before I can be 100% positive it has been fixed

Just a suggestion, grab the latest update for UT Europe. It was found to contain a memory leak in it. More information about it is
available from the UT Forums: http://www.simforums.com

Many times, random CTD's are caused my missing textures, invalid landclass files, or just about anything else that was improperly
installed or poorly coded.

The easiest way to find missing textures is to use a program called Filemon available from: [url]

A word of caution though, FS uses a "search pattern" when looking for certain files. It will start in one folder, if it is not located, it will move
onto the next, and so forth. So, just because it says on one line "NOT FOUND," doesn't mean that it ultimately was not.

Also when running Filemon, you can limit the search location of file processes. I suggest limiting it to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Games directory otherwise you will get other messages from other programs and processes as well that are with high certainty
unrelated.

Another tip you could try is increasing the size of your swap file (referred to as Virtual Memory by Microsoft inside the Windows OS's).
Generally, it is best to let Windows manage this, however, if you are experiencing problems, you can manually configure the settings. A
good place to start (number wise) is to set the swap file to TWICE the size of your installed memory.

Try the UT update and then the swap file and if no-go, use Filemon and let us know how it goes. If you need help interpreting the log from
it, let us know.

After the hard landing, you have to modify your passenger lists to allow for the extra weight for passenger back braces.

Well there's been a power failure overnight so I don't really know how it went, I will let it run again tonight and see how it goes, I'll let you know
how it goes

I have UT europe version 1.11, I think it's the latest version (at least was last time I checked), I followed advice on the boards and set my pagefile
to 4096 mb, don't know if it's right or not

as for using filemon.exe, I already used that, doesn't seems to be anything out of the ordinary in it, but I can't interpret it very well, the last
few entries right before CTD are on page 1 of the thread, if you want to have a look at them
