I've had absolutely no crashes! Unless of course I'm dicking around with FS or FSP for any reason (they're never saved in my pilot log
though)

Better keep practising then jimbotopoke...

Congratulation man !
I can't compare your 500 hours with my little 116h neither my c8 with your c16. So I looked to your average flight length of about 5h... It is about my longest ever done flight . The average is a bit less than 2h30. You get 4.5 more bonus than penalties, my ratio is 4.1 I don't know if there is someone around who can compete with you, even Jetflyer seems quite far but sooner than later, both of you will more likely make the need for higher rank than flying legend. ![]() ![]()

Quote:I have done a few long flights while sleeping across the atlantic, and a handful of them while I was at work with the sim flying at Wow, That must be fun. What a pointless waste of electricity.

As for you walterp, what a waste of space.
Stop posting your childish comments. Geez, some people! Just because people take it more seriously than you there's no need to be a jerk.

Ok, walterp, don't think it was useful. Jetflyer, you made your point.
This case is closed. Don't want you both to start an argument here. Pagir

I just dont understand how letting the sim fly while you are at work is fun?
What is the point?

Quote:walterp wrote: I figured eventually someone might post a comment like this. Let me ask you walter, and be honest. I take it you never use the autopilot? You hand fly every single flight? Even transcontinental or transoceanic flights, say from Miami Florida, USA to Sydney Australia? if you do, kudos to you. My reasoning is this, and take it for face value as one person's enjoyment compared to another. I dreamed of flying as a child. Being a pilot was dashed due to a childhood injury that makes it so I will never pass my medical. Such is life, however I am an artist, I have an imagination that runs wild regardless of what I am doing. Sometimes I imagine myself the passenger (especially on long flights where I do use autopilot) and look over the wing (happens to be my least fav window seat when actually on a plane - I like an unobstructed view, but in the sim its fantasy. I imagine myself as the pilot or the passenger, on a long flight, letting my plane cruise at altitude while I am sleeping, thinking about where its going, what its flying over, and knowing when I am at work there is a 'pilot' that is taking care of my aircraft in the sky while I enjoy me long day in Corporate America, giving me something to daydream about while mindlessly working too many hours on too short a day, and when I get home, I am normally within an hour of landing, sometimes two hours if I get off on time and once in a blue moon, my plane as been circling a bit over my destination. Its a fantasy world and what one might find 'boring' others might have found enjoyable. Like simming. There are those who never use VC and only 2D panels. personally I dislike 2D panels, I find those boring, but I wont tell someone else who is using them they are wrong. Then there are those who always want to be the pilot and never the passenger. I like wingviews and am glad some developers add them. I also like a detailed external view. I have a couple of friends in the fs community that have only flown 2D panels, and the only time they see the external or VC is when they are clicking through the views for a brief moment. Thats the way they enjoy flying. Here is something you might find boring too - There are some aircraft like the Dreamfleet Beech Bonanza and Baron 58, or Bill Lyons' aircraft where you can have a plane that has no pax, no pilot viewable, etc. Sometimes after a flight in one of those kind of AC, after landing I will turn everything off on the plane, remove the pilot, tie down the aircraft, go into external view, and leave the sim on not even flying, letting the hours pass. Especially at airports like Georender's where there are other animations, or like Emma Field. I imagine my pilot off socializing, or spending the night at the pilots lounge, renting a room, etc then the following morning, he preps the plane, gets his charter, and flies to their destination. I make it in my mind as real as I want it to be. I enjoy it this way. As for wasting electricity, I pay my bills, and a few bucks with the electric company do not make me sweat, so again its a matter of opinion regarding "waste". To me it isnt. Some may say because I have spent thousands of dollars on payware add-ons that its a waste. Its my hobby and as such, I will enjoy it as I see fit. No harm no foul and I respect your opinion as it differs from my own. tomatoes / tomahtos Post Edited ( 10-11-05 14:21 )

Yeah computers don't use much electricity anyway and if SaVas has an LCD monitor it's not too much. I bet you Walter leave your TV on
standby all the time that's just as bad. And your PC monitor probably, not to mention most computers usually sit there wasting electricity most of the time anyway in the average workplace/home. Like Savas said it depends on what you consider a waste. Post Edited ( 10-11-05 15:02 )

Quote:I respect your opinion as it differs from my own. Thank You SaVas. A much better structure and reasoned argument that Jetflyers "Waste of space" and "Jerk". I am a pilot in "real life" so I know how much you must have wanted it, as I probably wanted it as much and was lucky enough to accompish my dream. I apologise if my remark was taken the wrong way, maybe I was too flippant and of course 'each to his own'. I just like to be at the computer and enjoy the whole flight, which is why my flights last a few hours at most. If I do fly further the I just use 4x accel. Cheers.

It boils down to, Ican afford to leave it on. If I wanted to run everything on in my house from lights to the air conditioning, to radios and
televisions, I could. I can afford it. Leaving my computer on isnt a problem.

Congrats too on being a real pilot. I am envious. Hey Richard, dont stress over it. Its all calmed now, and we should all just get along *wide grin*
