FPS on landing?

Hi there, i'm just after some help or advice.

My problem is to do with fps on approach after doing a flight. For example, last night i flew from frankfurt to manchester, about 1 and a half
hours. On approach into manchester my fps dropped to about 4 fps. Not easy trying to land!! Well anyway this morning i decided to do a
circuit around manchester to test my fps. Well what i found was that my fps were a lot better about 10-15 on approach. I tried it during day
and night and the frames were very respectable. So why after a longer flight have my frames dropped to a snails pace?

Because you had loaded AT the airport, not flown to it-- in the time it takes for FS to load and be quick at the scenery it is at; you've already
landed! Wheras here you loaded there, took off, turned around, ect ect going alot slower than the speed at which one approaches the
airport in decent.

What is your RAM? If you have less than 1.0 Gig RAM than FS is impossible to fly in with many addon's! Try defragmenting your computer,
too.

Oh right. I have 1 gig ram, P2.6 HT, ati 9600 pro. Is there a work around for this. Will pausing the sim and allowing the textures to load
help? How does everyone else cope?

I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card to 9800. will that help?

Might sound weird but try temporary to disable your force feedback, check in your addon scenery directory if you have any
subdirs there which do
contain a scenery folder but not a texture folder (typically landclass files do show this, point is, fs keeps searching for
texture folders when it
finds a scenery folder in your addon scenery and v.v.). In fact, move landclass files to a dedicated folder in your
fs9\scenery\landclass folder for
example.
Reduce your AI traffic to 40 % to see if that makes a change. Check the afcad for your airport (traffic takes about 15
minutes to load so starting
from an airport makes a difference).
General tip, download a tool called filemon and run it when fs is running, you will be surprised how many files fs won't be
able to find. That causes
some major stutters too....

P.S. changing your graphic card will help in other areas but not to get your fps from 4 to 20 on that airport

Hi thanks for the tips. just checked my addon addon scenery and its ok.

Where do i disable the forcefeedback? I don't have a foce feedback joystick btw...

If i start at my arrival aiport, let fs load everything up and then switch to my departure airport will that help?

I'll try that tool. If fs can't find some files whats the remedy to stop it searching for them?

Pausing the sim can help.

If you have any addons like traffic, or airport scenery, weather add-ons, etc, the more you have running the worse the frames can be. It
could also be attributed to a memory leak somewhere.

Reduce your traffic settings to around 50% or less.

If its cloudy, reduce your sight distance to around 60 miles, 100% 3D clouds.

Reduce ground textures to around 70 (does not impact clarity much)

Can also depend on the aircraft you are flying. A lot of addons are getting very detailed, so if you are using a virtual cockpit try the 2D
mode instead.

Thanks trying out the optimizations now. I have AS6, RC4 and UT running with traffic at 100%. My ground textures are 75 and visibility is
60. The thing that confused me is that i get good frames when i take off and land from the same airport but after a flight the approach is
horrible. I don't mind pausing and letting the sim do its thing, my only plea is for better frames, lol.

I had the same thing and it puzzled me for a long time till i did do an extensive search with filemon like described above. For example, in the
logfile filemon might show that fs is looking for some fx file which for some reason is no longer there..Before you run it though, be very selective
about what you like to monitor with it because the log files are huge

It has been thought from several people that UT USA has some memory leak issues (I dont use it now because I had a few CTDs and
run out of memory issues after I installed it and could not figure out the cause), but once I reverted back to regular FS9 coastlines the
issue all but went away.
