I received and installed Radar contact last night. I was very worried about the voices, and had I listened to the videos before I purchased, I
probably wouldn't have bought it. I have made two flights sofar, both around 1½ hour, one jet, controlled airports etc... and one from minor airports with a DC 3. My first impression: This is a KEEPER!!, the voices sound much better in the sim as in the videos, imo. Mayby because you are busy and there is som background noise, I don't know. At first I thought it was a problem with the numbers beeing "drawn" out the way they do, but as you to squawk and so on, yourself, it's really convenient. This might change as one gets more profecient, and it's my only peeve at the moment, and it's a very minor problem to me. I was really positively surprised. It works somewhat different from default ATC, the workload has shifted some, with more to do on the ground and at departure/arrival but less when at cruise. I believe it can even be made to do the cruise part on its own and pause the sim at a given distance from the arrival airport, for those who like long hauls while they sleep :-) I haven't tested this as I rarely fly more than 1 -1½ hours. I do still have a lot to learn since I haven't used RC since ver 2. Cheers Peter ![]()

koolies, as im completely usless, lol, what about taxiing, is there a progressive taxi type thin, or do they say follow the _____ on the
taxiway to the active or somthing similar? All The Best Ste

You are basicly told taxi to RWY 09L (or what ever) and then you are on your own. But dont dispair, because in the adventure display you can see
direction and distance to the rwy while taxiing out. I don't think you get any help on arrival though, RC seems to see your flight as finished after you got your taxi clearance from ground control, after you have turned of the RWY. In any case an airport taxi and parking map is nice to have. I'm using Simplates 2004 and a load of links to various pages and then show the maps, procedures etc on my second monitor. A major change is, you will often get clearance in advance, ie descend 19000 at pilots discression. If you use auto answer, you will not have to push many keyes as the pilot acknowlegde most of it, you mostly press keys when you have to change frequence and so. This is great when flying an approach, you don't have to look for the key board all the time. It works more "fluid" this way, but you have to keep your ears open when at a busy airport. I flew into KATL with a Delta callsign, and most of the other flights was also Delta flights. A little stress, but very entertaining. I'm using AI chatter (there is an option for canned chatter as well) and it's quiet when flying enroute, but very hectic at approach. The transition from default ATC has been very easy for me, mostly it is very logic, imo. But flying is getting more complex and unpredictable with RC4. I'm just wondering what will happen next time I get an emergency from FSP. Cheers Peter ![]()

Hey pbn, I've been considering Radar Contact myself. I DID listen to audio in the videos and I thought, at least it's not as bad as
AIsmooth! ![]() Still it's a bit choppy and sometimes, too "run together." What's the file structure? Are they .wav files that you can edit so that you can record yourself making the calls? Maybe then, you could record new files that would smooth things out. For example, on words that typically begin a sentence or call, like "Contact departure," you could record a brief space before saying, "Contact." Also, the numbers could be recorded with the same tone so that you don't have a flurry of emotion from, "thirty" to "five." ![]() Still, it blows away defualt ATC but I would be interested to know if the audio files can be edited. Thanks!

You can change some wavs I think but it seems that there are more than 70,000 of them to change then

70.000 is the total number, it´s much less if you want to change one pilot or controller. But of course it´s still not a 10 mins job. I think sthg
in the range of 750-1250 wavs. Oliver

Vatsim website has a links to world airport charts - it's a good place to start. You can access the CAMS charts for Canada at Navcan - I
print off the charts for major complicated airports I'm flying to and keep them in a binder. I never use progressive taxi anymore.

Before planning a major make over of the package, I would suggest you wait for "jury", I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions on this. I'm not
having any problem with it, now that I have tried it. but i'll not say it's perfect, of course there is room for improvement. The more I use RC4, the more I like it. And each person must decide for himself... Another thing is if you speed up the numbers and make them less "pronounced" you might have a hard time keeping up if you aren't used to either real world- or online ATC, remember you are running a 2-3 men job in the sim depending on which aircraft you are flying. If you are flying an easy add on like LDS 763 (and you are well prepared) then you have time in spare at an approach, but if you are in a DC3 with a poor autopilot or a complex aircraft like like 727 then you might have your hands full, most likely having to handfly at least part of the time, combined with looking at approach charts, setting radios etc. You can only get the last transmission repeated as far as I can see, it's important not to loose anything in an instructrution. If you miss to many things you'll have a meeting with a FAA official at the debriefing. (I busted my altitude twice on a flight, the debriefing wasn't pretty. I missed one clearance and I lost speed indication while climbing in speed mode ![]() Just the numbers and the alphabet is in the neighborhood of 2400 files. That'll take some time to edit. I hope you understand what I intend to say, it's rather hard to explain as I'm not very good at writing in english. Cheers Peter ![]()

Okay ive gotten the program. installed it but. how in heavens name you actually get it to work? I mean i loaded the flightplan accordingly
but when im at the airport rc4 stated ctc ground etc etc and just kept talking before me even responding. basically its like a virtual person responding for me without me pressing any keys on the keybo

First of all have you installed and made the adventure display to work correctly (multiline only), here you will see the availible commands etc.
Before pressing the "Start RC" button, make sure you have the correct settings in "general", "keyboard" and "controller info" In "general": Set your callsign Set the options in "other" like "pilot auto reply" In "keyboard": Make sure you dont have any conflicting key strokes with other add ons and what you have set FS. In your case it sounds like you have turned ATC over to the co pilot, the default key command is ctrl+shift+k, I think, is it possible you have used that commando ? In "Controler info": Setup the facilities, voices and the trip specific here, normally defult works, but you might need to activate "notams" or "procedures" as well as gate/parking and alternative airports for each trip. You should at least work through the quick start guide in the manual or the first tutorial flight, if you are unfamiliar with RC. I hope this helps... Cheers Peter ![]() |
