SAA uses A320's, A340' s, B737's, B747's etc and are considering ordering 4xA380's... reason... 99% (as mentioned above) of the population is not poor... yes there are poor people but alot of people have a totally misconception of SA in general. Why did British Airways take over ComAir locally to fly National routes... British Airways (ComAir), Khulula, One Time, SA Express, SAA all fly national routes as well due to demand etc and its growing. I would say SA sits atm between 2nd and 1st world country status even tho it is in Africa. ![]() Post Edited ( 08-29-05 11:52 ) ![]()

We seem to forget that Africa is not a lost suburb at the edge of the world but a full continent with all diversity as well about ressources,
politic situation, human rights and so. Just see how differents can be the European countries on such small continent and see the size of Africa (by size understand territory AND population). Even a very poor country will need and have air companies, they need air transports, even more than rich countries covered by rail and road networks.. Also, in poor countries you find always rich, very rich people, simple logic. all the country ressources are in theyr wallet. So don't worry for them, they will fly in very good conditions. ![]()

No front page picture!!!! Imagine! The explanation was a lot like Pegase wrote - in order not to promote any prejudices, white front page will send a clear message it's a vast continent full of diversities and couple of the photos can't describe it, even if they do speak thousands of words. I'm sure it was the only fair thing to be done. South Africa is quite a rich country actually. It's the richest of all the African nations by far (just look at their military and compare it to their
neighbours). It stands to reason then that they would also have the richest airline in Africa. ![]() Flying for Landmark Airlines.

When I started this topic I didn't mean to imply that I think Africa is an extremely poor nation, just that alot of their airlines use 747's
and I found it strange that they have such a high demand for air transport for locals (Africans, not the wealthy as described above) ![]() |
