Do they have AI models of the ATR? I do have the plane and liveries but using it as ai would be framerate killing

Currently for the ATR, PAI models are still the best ones to use. Just my .02.

Oh also check http://www.projectai.com the ATR should be good enough. I also dont like the default atr too fake for me

Being totally new to replacing AI aircraft, might you explain briefly how the whole process works with UT....please?

Download the planes you want, make sure the aircraftc.fg is correct after you've added all liveries for a certain plane.
Open UT, go to utilities and then aircraft.
Window on the left shows you the installed planes and liveries, on the right you can choose alternatives (the ones you've downloaded). Add the
liveries you want (you can add several liveries per plane) and choose save. Do this for each livery. (and remove the original if you like)
Then exit the page and choose for compile. UT will then compile a new traffic.bgl for you.
That's very basic the steps, with a bit playing around you should find your way

and to add to what Dutch64 said its a time consuming project. you may just want to download your aircrafts and repaints for the airports
you usually fly first then continue from there. some links for where you can download aircrafts are on this thread. remember everytime you
download a new repaint you always have to exit the ut config and restart for it to register the new paint

Quick question: I know there is a program somewhere in AVSIM ("aired" IIIRC) that allows you to "erase" the AI aircraft from the selection screen in
FS. Dou you know how to do it, don´t want to have 100+ aircraft displayed when I only fly 4!!!

Yes, you can use that, in the .air file you have to set the type of plane (i think it was number 105 ) from 0 to 2. It will be then be invisible in
the aircraft browser. There are also tools available which can do this for many air files at the same time but i forgot the name, sorry

Search for a file called FSAT10.zip at Avsim. It's an easy to use utility to change the visability settings for your aircraft. Very handy for
excluding your AI jets from the aircraft selection menu!

Which folder do I have to copy my Project AI repaints? I want to change the default ATR72 repaint from UT with one I downloaded from ProjectAI. I
follow the tutorial, select the Air France ATR72 in both the left and right window:



Click "Insert" then Save but I am given no choice to select my Project AI repaint....

You have to choose the manufacturer, which for example is PAI. Then under type, find the aircraft you want to use, ie ATR 72. Then, under variation
choose the repaint, ie Austrian. Save and compile, and you're good. FSRepaint from Abacus is a good way to make sure the paint worked correctly. It's
a free trial, but it will work fine for checking paints. If the aircraft config isn't numbered correctly, the paint will not show up in the UT
interface. Also, if you keep UT open while you're adding paints, when you save the aircraft config file, make sure to refresh UT so it will read the
new config (the little circular arrow above manufacturer). And always make sure to compile after making your changes so UT will update the traffic.bgl
file.
