If I've got a flap failure on final, I'm not going to notify the PAX. On the other hand, an immediate decompression would require a PAX
announcement.
Sorry I wasn't more discrimatory in my previous post. It should be obvious though that the PAX would respond differently to different
failures. If the failure isn't serious, they wouldn't even be notified/frightened. For example if one of my AC Packs goes out, or I have an
outboard landing light that won't retract, they're not going to worry (because I won't let them know)!
I understand what you're saying, and perhaps it would be nice to have 2 (or more) different possible PAX reactions to different types of
failures.
