Ok.. Here is my experience so far. It may be helpfull for people with the same hard/soft as a reference.
I have Vista x64 SP2 (Yes, there is a SP2 for vista but its still a beta) + FSX SP2 + PMDG 747-400 & MD-11 + FS2Crew + Active Sky X +
Active Graphics + FSUIPC + MyTrafficX + Radar Contact V4.3.
Hard is a Intel Core 2, 4 Gb RAM, ATI Radeon 4870 X2 (2Gb VRAM), Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Joystick.
Download and installation worked flawlessly. Key was inmediatly delivered upon order and activation process worked with no delays and
the very first time it was used.
I use a resolution of 1776x1000 and all menus and all text are displayed correctly.
Bugs I've found:
- As long as I dont play with the mini-display everything is fine, but when I try to open it FSX begins to behave erratically : Mouse active
areas (the spot where the mouse icon changes to mark an action is available) appear offset form the actual buttons they belong, Panels
do not refresh as they should and if you open or move them basically they cease to respond.
- When activated the mini-display does not appears or in its place a box the size of a few words in a single line shows up with no content.
However the box itself works normally since you can move it and change its transparency yet no content whatsoever shows inside it.
On the other hand as long as I start a flight with the mini-display closed by default and dont try to open it there is no problem at all.
I've tested it with DX10 and it works exactly as it does in DX9.. So I guess we can say FsPx is DX10 compatible.
The other problem I've found is not really a problem but a byproduct of PMDG logic. There are a few items that are not activated in the way
FSX does by default and therefore FsPX wont detect them unless you use the procedure for a default aircraft. For instance:
- Doors will not be detected either open or closed. In fact the actual doors can be in any position and it wont matter to FSX nor FsPX. So
you have to make sure they are actually closed in the airplane (Via the EICAS or visually from the external view) and ALSO use the SHIFT +
E key combination until the message "Main door closing" is displayed.
- Lights may present the same problem, I havent figured out whether its for the landing lights or the strobe lights.
- The already well known "seat belt" subject common to many aircraft.
I've flown 4 legs REAL TIME with no computer resets or even closing FSX at all like this:
EGKK - TAPA - EGKK - KMCO - EGKK
8.5 hrs (x2) + 8 hrs + 9 hrs = 34 Hours plus aprox. 1 hour between flights for real time refuelling, pax unloading and loading, FMS loading,
etc.. All of them in the same PMDG MD-11 (Virgin Atlantic livery to be precise)
And NO stability problems have arised at all.
What do I think about it? It is exactly what we all expected. I havent yet used half of its capabilities but everything I've used works as
expected. Because of the door issue I had an emergency and the experience was inmersive and impressive. Clues were given as to the
posibility of a problem (I dont want to give it away) and passengers reacted acordingly. On landing because of the short runway I touched
down hard and used max braking energy and an hydraulic line ruptured causing asymetric braking and corrective action became
necessary. Upon ending the flight evaluation of the emergency was correct and I had a 4.5 million euro invoice waiting for me for the
structural damage plus the hydraulic system repair.
No impact at all in framerate is detectable while FsPX is running.
Now.. Dan, I have a few questions for you:
- I havent tried yet but lets say that after activating both the landing lights and the strobe by means of the standard FSX key combination
and after that the proper switches in the MD11 cockpit if necessary still FsPX does not detects the real light condition. There would be any
option to disabling the "light penalty" option?
- What are the conditions an airplane has to meet to be considered "part of the fleet" in the income calculations at the end of the flight? I
have 2 MD11 in my company, same airplane diferent livery, and I'm not getting any fleet bonus.
That's all I can think as of now..
Congratulations Dan and Congratulations all FsPx users! Finally is ours!!
