Trying leaning the mixture
A C172 will go a lot further than you might think. A friend and I were flying around Florida over spring break in
a G1000 equipped 172. We were about in the crook of florida (where the panhandle meets the rest of the state) and we got interested in
what are range was at the point (we'd already been flying for about an hour). So we pulled the power WAY back (to about 2100RPM and
the mixture leaned out to about 5gph. We could have made it all the way to Albequerque, New Mexico on a single tank. Downside- would
have taken 9hours+.
