Yeah I know what you're saying. Perhaps most was too strong of a word. Many airlines don't use it, but they will someday. I still think flat out
hand landing is better to do. After all, if we just let the computer do everything all the time there wouldn't be much of a reason for us to exist,
would there be?
edit: I feel that I should expand on what I said. I'm not trying to pick a fight here or anything like that. I'm just stating my personal opinion. The achievement of manned flight is, in my book, mankind's greatest accomplishment. So far at least. Ever since I was very young and I had RAF Tornadoes roaring over my head at low altitude where I lived in a little place called Darley, in the UK, I've wanted to be a pilot. I really don't care how much money I have to pay to realize my dream, or how much hardship I will have to endure when I'm just starting out with a flying job. There's just something about flight you know? There's a grandure about it, and I belive that there is something to be said for grandure. Somehow I think using something like autoland belittles flying. Don't get me wrong I love all these technological advancements that make things less stressful and more economical, but planes need pilots. If we just let these advancements like autoland keep coming pretty soon we flyboys will be obsolete. Computers will become so reliable that passengers will be willing to fly on a plane that has no human pilot. I hope that I don't live to see that day because it will make me very sad indeed.
Granted this thread is talking about using autoland in a simulator and here I am rambling along talking about philosophy in the way I sometimes do when I'm sleep deprived. I just thought I should speak my mind.
