I just wanted to comment on the 7700 code. In the US this is mandatory as it causes the return on the controllers screen to become
more visible with like bold numbering/lettering or a different color (not sure of the exacts on how it looks differently). This is to make it
easier for the controller to find you in the crowded skies and keep their attention on you to keep you well away from other aircraft. Now
they're not going to be yelling at you over the coms to be sure to do it. They may very well request it though. You can also gaurantee that
when the FAA looks into the emergency decleration they're going to have some questions for you as to why you didn't set it. With no good
explination for not doing something that takes a few seconds you could find yourself in some serious trouble.
