Active Directory requires a server system to be installed for you to connect to.
I run an Active Directory at home.
I have Windows 2000 Server running on an old HP NetServer LHII, which runs the Active Directory service. I have 3x client PCs (all Windows XP
Professional) which have computer accounts on the Active Directory. It works very nicely.
If you have a server in-place, then you'll need to join your workstation to the domain. I don't think this is at all possible with XP Home, so you'd
need to have Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional for this to work.
To join to the Active Directory, go to the "System" control panel, into "Computer Name", click "Change", set the radio button to "Domain" and enter
the name of your Domain/Active Directory in the box. You may be asked for your domain administrator account's user ID and password.
