far as I'm aware (and I confess I could be wrong) but the only difference between the PSS one and the real one is you can use the PSS
throttle normally while the real aircraft has to use the detents. (If true then it beats me how they taxi..)
The detents don't replace what you call "standard autothrottle system", they're basically another approach to the TO/GA button. Instead of
having just one button to control TOGA/autothrottle you have three detents - TOGA for full power take-off (probably never used), FLEX for
take-off power set according to the environment and CLMB for what you would call standard autothrottle.
In essence it's a TOGA button with one more setting. Not really a big modification or rocket science or anything, so where's the problem?
And of course you can controll thrust manually in a Bus, actually you can control everything manually if you want to.
