Any flyable A340s out there?

Hi all,

Just want to know if anyone knows of any decent A340s out there for FS2004. So far I've tried, and had unsuccessful ventures with:

The Phoenix Simulations A340: It just wasn't made for FS2004. It flies strangely, is buggy and unstable, even if it has a great panel.

The Aerodesigns A340: Again, designed for FS2002, and sets off strange 'aerobatic' penalties in FSP, even though I'm doing nothing.

The Project Opensky A340: I can never get POSKY planes to fly properly; great models - poor .air files. The newest version entirely
ignores pitch_ flaps so that you have to come in with a ridiculously high nose pitch (and yes, even loaded properly and at the correct
landing weights).

(The Aviograsf A340 I have researched, but it's so buggy that it is apparently totally unflyable; just check the forum there)

On the plus side, I've found a great payware panel by Eric Marciano:

It comes with the (fairly ugly) Flightcraft A340-600, but you can swipe the panel for any bird you like. It's not totally complex, but has a
workable FMC, and it's the best, most stable I've seen out there for the A340 to date. (note: The only thing I had to do was email the
author to ask if there was any way the ETA point in the FMC could be in Zulu time, for ease of arrival time planning. To my surprise, he
edited the guage and emailed it to me!!! That's service!!)

I'm willing to go payware/shareware/freeware/whateverware, I just want a semi-decent bird!! Any ideas?

I am quite in about payware planes. I bought the "fly perfect" airbus. A trash except the sounds. way under the quite good feeware Airbus
A380-800 from Robert Versluys.
I won in a contest, a F4u Corsair. Not bad but inferior to the freeware availables.

For the A340, for now I only have the POSKY which I use a lot... for AI traffic

But anyway I am nor (yet) an hardcore simmer, I take the models as they are and try to do my best with them. So my exigences go more on visuals, handy
panels 2D or VC and atmosphere rather than perfect dynamics.

The POSKY A380 is flyable and easy but, lacks of mood, character, personality.

My favorites are the David Maltbys, planes, my 727-200 from vistalaliners and D 18S fby Shupe.

I would add the Project Tupolev Tu154-B2 v9.4, an absolute gem to fly but damned complicated, need half an hour of clicks and clacs to get the
engines starded (But what great sound then) and if I succeeded to get the autopilots, the Navs and ils working, it was never all at the same time


But a beauty and very exiting to fly.

Have you tried the A340 Professional from JustFlight??

I have it and this add-on is AWESOME. The only downside is the panels. It's too complicated and timeconsuming to learn everything. I
just replace the panel with the 777 for the A330-200/300 and the 747 for the A340-200/300 panels and it works perfect.

Try it and you will love it.

yeah I was going to mention I also have the A340 Professional for Just Flight and I would recomend that also it is very good almost is the same as
Level-D's 767-300 prgram

Yeah, actually that's the Phoenix Simulations A340, and I bought it a while ago. I find it buggy and unstable (even with the patch). I know
it was designed for FS2002 and doesn't really work well in FS2004, at least for me. Also (I'm a little embarrassed to say) it doesn't have
any of the eye candy of the current level of design. Both the fuselage and engines are a little distorted in their shape, and there are no
wing view models. The panel is awesome, but it doesn't work 100% of the time. It has odd errors were certain parts of the autopilot will
not work properly at certain times. I loved this plane for FS2002 (the complicated systems were great for me, and I'm also a huge fan of
the Level-D 767 BTW) but not for FS2004. And to be fair, it wasn't really designed for FS2004, and they did the best they could with the
patch.
Man, I wish the POSKY A340 had a realistic FDE, or at least one you could edit (seems impervious to both aircraft.cfg edits and AirEd
edits), cause it would be AWESOME. The authors don't seem too receptive to any suggestions or criticisms on their aircraft, though.

I would pay good money to anyone who can tell me how to edit that FDE so that it flies properly

Yeah... well, I posted on their forum as tactfully as I could while still making my point. 0 replies
Thing is, I read a few similar threads and found that they took none to kindly to comments about their FDEs. Sort of a 'my way or the
highway' type of thing, though it came out as 'it's all in the manual... read the manual'. Again, too bad, cause the models are so good! I'm
hoping to find someone who has done their own .air file for the POSKY A340-300... Or for a new release altogether by someone else.
Until then, I guess I'm right out of luck

There is a very nice and realistic set of replacement FDEs for the PSS A330/A340 by Bob Scott, you should give them a try!
