I treat FSP and the forum as a single package...
Used to love flying ...and talking about it in these forums. Wandering from topic to topic in this forum was a big part of FSP for me. Looking at screenshot ....talking about beer ....and just plain sillyness. I find it a shame that some ppl are so pigheaded and think that everybody should use and play FSP exactly the way they do. I believe in diversity.....the more ppl that can have fun with FSP the better . If that means that some things should be added or made adjustable in some way ....so be it. But hey .....thats just my idea on these matters. My best greetings to Dan. ![]() ![]() Every landing is nothing more than a controlled collision with a planet.

Just a note from someone who has only an handful of posts but has frequented countless other forums for several years, so take it as you like... I
also agree with the OP, this forum is different, at least for two reasons (and not good ones): 1) The amount of sarcasm that I have seen in some answers is something that I have rarely seen elsewhere (and I am old enough to have seen many many forums). In other forums, sarcasm would not be tolerated and the moderators would step in immediately. Alas, this seems not happen here, on the contrary, I can often seen sarcastic replies coming FROM the moderator themselves (and sorry for saying that in such a blunt way, you can be even a pilot of the Space Shuttle, but that does not allow you be not polite. It is a matter of culture and education, not flying hours. John Wayne died a long time ago) 2) I have seen threads where the moderators started to argue and discuss with the users, with remarks such as "I am a mod, therefore I can do what I want". This is EXACTLY the kind of behavior that make forums die: a mod is not there to fight with users, but to help them. A mod is not there to discuss with the users and be opinionated about things, but to make sure the discussions are always on track. Otherwise, he ceases to be a mod.If a mod steps in to discuss, he should do that -IMHO- as a normal user and not with the mod hat. It is too easy to say "This is my opinion and by the way I am a MOD, so I am always right and if I do not like the answers, I close the thread." I think there are people here that are willing to help, and I can see (that's only my opinion of course) that there is some help even in some of those sarcastic answers cited before... But the problem is how this is done. If someone asks "How I can disable the flag penalty?" and the answer is "Look in the option file, genius!" ... That may helps, but someone could also react in a bad way, not asking anything anymore and even telling to other people that "FS Passengers is a good add-on, but in the support forum there are people full of ..." Is that good? DareDevil

I'm going to have to disagree with you on a couple of points Dare, first perhaps either I'm just not looking hard enough or something else. I have at
no stage seen any moderator say "I am a mod therefore I am right" or any variation of that. Also threads are never closed just because "we" don't like the replies. Threads are closed for many reasons, never "personal" reasons.
12-01-2010, 05:01 PM
I think some mods are very "closed" happy. I hate when I read through a thread that started to get a little heated, even with a mod in the discussion
and then a mod will attack one of the posters in his "final" post and then say, that's it now it's closed.

I think that this topic should be a lesson to everyone that reads it so it can be different in the future. sure we can keep going on and on and
in the end we are all pointing the finger to "friends" just for not taking the blame but raise your hand above your head and look what 's underneath it and start thinking , maybe it's also a bit my fault , and many bits create one big problem. ![]() ![]() ![]()

DareDevil is right in some points about the moderators.
The forum started with a few moderators who were very good and professional. Some left, others came. There are some newbee mod's who are really not professional here and I immediately didn't understood why these people became mod's. Anastasios.

That said Anastasios, I have noticed that ever since 'Planeman/Towerman/Jetman' and however many other aliases that guy had, certainly all use
'regular' posters, including the mods, have been a little on edge.

It would be interesting to know your opinion as moderator (and comparing your work as moderator with the work of other moderators of other forums on internet,). If, on the other hand, you disagree completely, it would be simply honest to say that openly. Thanks, DareDevil

Quote:Powerke wrote: Well, that's your choice. I think it's a mistake, because they are two different things. As far as the tires blowing, for a while it went like this: "My tires blow up in every landing!" "What's your touch down speed?" "638 ft/min" After a while, that can get really annoying for a couple of reasons: 1) Your technique sucks, and you blame it on the software. 2) There were several discussions on the same topic, and you posted on the same subject without reading any of them. Personally, I have never had an issue with the tires blowing on a smooth landing. If some people have a legitimate issue with it, I didn't get to see it because that conversation was drown by the noise made by people who prefer to post before reading.

Alright, folks, it's good to have your say here, whether negative or positive. I know of other forums where you don't have as much freedom
to exact your thoughts. I know of one forum that is famous for removing any negative feedback from their members. And, those members are booted for speaking their minds. I don't see that happening within the FsP forum...not by me anyway. If you disagree with this, please send me a message and I'll be more than happy to discuss it with you. Moreover, if you feel all of the moderators here are not up to the task of this forum, please send Dan an email with specific reasons why any or all moderators aren't up to the task. After all, we aren't here to solve every technical issue people present on the forum. That is hard for many people to understand, but I feel we try to point them in the right direction. Keeping the forum from getting out of hand is a vital concern and a priority. Staying on topic within a thread, making sure threads are placed in the correct forum, policing the bad language, personal attacks, etc, are parts of the overal equation. As a moderator, I am still a customer of FsP....the same as you all. I paid for this program and enjoyed the benefits of being part of a great online community. I don't get paid to be a moderator, I volunteered for it. Enough said about that. There are people from all over the globe that visit this forum. Many language barriers, different cultures often times clash. I've seen this already within this thread, and it certainly isn't isolated to this thread. Misunderstandings do take place quite often here. With that being said, I suggest we all try to keep things respectful here. Thanks!
