Failure %

What do you folks set your failure percentages at? I usually put mine around 1-3% enough that it happens once in a great while, but rarely
enough that it can lul you into a false sense of security.

1-3% seems pretty realistic too, from my own perspective, I used to live in chicago and fly out of O'Hare and Midway frequently and only
two or three times did I see emergency equipment chase a landing aircraft down the runway, and not one of those times did anything
serious happen.

I usually set mine to 5%. I get long periods of nothing and then BAM...two or three in a row.

think mines at 20%, im sure realistic would be 50% it either screws up or it doesn't.

it depends realy on the airline lol

if you want to imitate FlyJet set it to 100% :P

I usually fly with it at around 7%. Like valoran nothing then bam bam one after the other. My last two flights undercarraige failed to lock
down properly then the next flight flaps not working. At least I got good reports and some bonus points.

In real life if there was a 50% something would fail or go wrong I would never fly in any aircraft.

Ya but to be more along the lines of realism you have to consider that by default 1 FSP flight brings the income of 50 real flights (in FSP
dollars that is).

But anyway I set mine to 5% usually.

In real life it is waaaay less then 1%.

I figured it out once a while back taking a snapshot of real-world incidents and comparing to the number of worldwide flights in the same
period of time. Dont' recall where I got the info, I think it was in three different places. Anyway, long story short, the actual rate of systems
failures reported worldwide according to the data I could find put it at way less than one percent. I fugured I'd set it at 5% and go with
that. In perspective, I've made perhaps 20-30 world-wide RL flights and have never experienced a failure or seen another plane having a
failure. Perhaps I've merely been looked after by higher authority.

Agree. I'm on a commercial airliner at least twice per month, and in the last 14 years only once was there a problem (in that particular
case, an engine was leaking fuel during a flight from London to Nairobi, and we turned back more than halfway to our destination).

In over 120 flights Ive had about 4 fuel leaks 1 bird strike and 1 stuck gear.

In reality, you get a lot more problems then you think - Fortunately, most of it are simple annoyance problems and are very, very quickly
found on the ground. (Such as an instrunment not working, and air vent broken, or the door not wanting to close properly.) - it's usually
dependant on the aircraft itself.

I know in my flying of over a few hundred flights so far, the worst that has happened in flight was a non-working brake in one of the gear.
Otherwise, the worst i've come accross was getting into the airplane and finding the oil cap won't open, calling a mechanic, and being
delayed about 30 minutes. Another time someone left on the aircrafts fuel pump and master switch for 4 days, and the engine wouldn't
start. Heck, once we got into the plane (for a checkride), and the plane wouldn't get a voltage up to rid us of the annunciator sound
beeping and a big 'Low Voltage' yellow text all over the PFD display. But ofcourse, we had no choice but to catch all of those on the
ground without ever moving the plane. (And these are brand new planes, not even a year old as I type this - all glass panel.)

So, I'd say real world failure rate is pretty high after all the above and more incidences. (Would you believe once the FMC and the Flight
Display would not show any airports/airspace/traffic because the system was down through all the aircraft in the area? Can't fly if we don't
have a working FMC.) It seems to be that most of the failures are minor, and easily seen before even starting the engine. Broken lights
aren't too big of a deal, but are an in-flight hazard to traffic avoidance and regulations, so planes would be held at their parking spot,
mechanics would fix it, then they'd fly. Its rare to have engines fall off and windows blow out, but amazingly common to have annoying
glitches show up.
