Nice idea! Could we sync the database folder, possibly?

My idea was, once a flight is finished that you publish your database to the site, then before you fly you upload it, then you select your pilot
and usch before flying, the problem is that some flight might not get counted if a few people make the same flight at the same time.. it would take some work on dans part to sync the databases, or make it possivble to read a global database, that way you cant use planes in use and the rating is the same for everyone effected by everyone...

The ranking structure still has to be decided...
pm me or just post it here and I we can discuss it... I figure it should be a littel different becuase everyone should create a new pilot, but shouldnt have to start flying the 172 (so no career mode enabled for the pilot) but you still have to fly the plane at the rank we set (just you could start at the ATR (etc...)

I say you can fly anything, anytime. Make it a very open VA.

Ok, dosent matter, we still setting up!!! I think I like the idea of fly whatevere anyway, we can still have a ranking system and all but that can
be to see who has the most flight hours etc... also with virtual money I was thinkin of implementing alot that way we can have fun with things (maybe a flight stock market or a casino and we could host race flights and you can bet on peeople) just concider it another way to have fun

My idea for long flights on the 747:
Lower level one class. Pay a nice bit for seats, but excellent service. Buisness level, really. The top deck could be a mini cash bar and resteraunt. Video games and television on screens on seats. Int'l power hookups. Or even possibly, with 747-8s, mini hotel rooms instead of seats.

Will, I was just suggesting some planes for the VA. I never said that all those planes will be in there.
About the rank structure, we could either do something like other VAs where every 20 hours or so, you get promoted. Or we can fly any plane we want. But if we are going to fly every plane we want, then we have to pass sort of a checkride to certify us for that plane. Maybe pass an exam and a checkride. On the checkride, we'll asing you a flight, and you have to pass it without penalties. Or mayba just a small penalty. Has to be diceded. Also the pax satisfaction on the checkride doesn't have to be %100. As long as it is within the margins, then we will accept the checkride. Something like %75 or so percent will do. When you pass it, you can now fly the plane. This will ensure that the pilots actually know how to fly the plane, instead of just letting random people fly and crash whatever airplane they like. It should be easy enough for everyone to pass a checkride. We won't make it that hard.

I say fly whatever you want w/o a checkride, and if you have a record of bad flights (deturmined by hub manager), you will be kicked off that
airplane. How to regulate that, however, I don't have a clue.

hehe, love this idea!
I wouldn't mind joining. Unless I need FsP, 'coz I don't have it atm lol. *using fsx*

Quote:ivo wrote: Without knowing the format of the data files, all you can do is to completely serialize all flying among all pilots in the VA. Which means as soon as one pilot downloads the DB files to make a flight, they must be locked until he finished the flight and uploads the resulting DB files. Note, right now, the entire Database subfolder is officially a black box and you can't sync pieces of it or merge results. You can take it as a whole and replace it as a whole. That does not scale! What is needed is a kind of merge synchronization, that knows about the data fields inside the files, adds new flights, adjusts the values in the company and pilot records and then redistributes the resulting files. I have been looking at the data files for a while, and I was able to identify almost every datum that shows up in the company and pilot stats. The flight records are still a bit vague and there are some 4800 bytes per company record that I don't know anything about. Without any support from the FsP program itself (but knowing the file format), it would require a little bit of discipline from the pilots, so that they don't go and repair/buy/sell aircraft, hire/fire pilots, all that management stuff. Those things would be ignored on upload and lost during the next download. The whole thing could be implemented as a web data service with a local client program. Pilots would have to place a "reservation" onto a plane and their pilot record. During that time, nobody else can use or modify that pilot/plane. During that reservation, the client downloads the current records and writes them into the local FsP data files. After performing the flight the client connects again uploading the new pilot stats, flight records and the delta's for the company record (not much affected there). In order to repair or sell a plane, heal or fire a pilot, the manager would also have to place reservations on them. Basically the reservation is a LOCK of the object, to avoid conflicting access to the same object by multiple users in the VA system. All that said, Dan has not replied to any of those questions about the file format at all. I do understand that he is busy with FsPX, but zero response at all is a little too little. He could at least tell if he's interested in it or not. And without him at least saying that he'll think about it, there is no point in making any more detailed proposal. Jan
