i was asked by Tracker801 to start a new thread about my flying experiences on the lessons

so here it is. i would like anybody who has realflying experiences to post here as well. that way everyone on the fourm can here the
stories from the realpilots, and us soon to be pilots. ^_^

Lesson 1, Wednesday 10 June, 2009
Area of flying: Jacksonville Florida KCRG
Arriving at the flight school at 1700 local time. I met the schools dispatcher, Erick and my flight instructor. My mom drove me down to the
school since I have never drove in a big city like Jax, and my only driving experience is in my small home town. While me and the
instructor where in his office going over the details of the flight my mom purchased a sectional chart and knee board.
We went out to the airplane, N62770 http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N62770 (a C172, with a G1000 cockpit) and did the preflight
inspection, everything good to go, we started out, the instructor took us out to the taxi way and let me taxi the airplane to the run-up area.
After engine run-up and takeoff I was incontrolled and we flew east towards Jax beach. Climbing up to 2000ft it was very hazy, probly
MVFR conditions we found ourselves looking at the PFD a lot, a few basic turns and we headed back toward the airport, entering the right
pattern for runway 14, I got to talk to the tower for the first time. We did a touch and go on 14 then tower cleared us for the option on runway
5. After taxing to the ramp, we shutdown the airplane and pushed her back. After Debrief I looked at a picture of an AH-64. And walked to
the desk to pay up and all.
At the school there was an orthopedic surgeon who took his whole family including the dog up. He told us about a year ago he was going
threw his midlife crises and was going to a dealership to get a motorcycle, but he passed by the airport on his way there.
When he got home he told his wife. “I diten buy a motorcycle… I bought an airplane”.

I see good things for you in the future. You appear to show good judgement by not being overly impressed by the people of the "rigid
wing" and took the time to gaze on the image, though only two dimensional, of a REAL aircraft. My hat is off to you young flyer. Tip for
today: READ EVERYTHING!!!! Knowledge is power. when you instructer asks a question be able to answer with confidence.

lesson 2

did not even get of the ground.
after preflight inspection i was about to climb in the airplane, when i saw a flash. we had been looking to the east at the clouds building
for awile. i asked the instructor "did you see that" he said no, but no sooner had the words come out of his mouth, a loud crack of thunder.
and the wind piked up. so we did not go up. we just retied the airplane and whent back inside to do some ground. wel when we got
back inside there was the rain. it came down hard, visibilty dropped. the airport went from perfect VFR, to solid IFR in less than 5min.
there where some airplanes flying VFR still in the pattern. guess the weather can to quick for them.

Good luck mate. I've had my PPL for 3 months and it's fantastic. I'm on 70 hours and going all over the place. You Americans seem to fly much better
aircraft then us in the UK though. I fly a C172 built in 1977. Ha. Does the job just fine though.

I highly doubt that we fly much better aircraft. I got my PPL flying a 1959 C-150...the one with a Venturi tube on the right side of the
aircraft It was a great flying little airplane but I never flew it on a cross-country leg. That thing would have beat me to death I
used a 60's model 172 for all cross -country flights. If I had used a 1977 model, I would have thought I was in a new airplane

Mine was a 1963 TH-55, what you would call a Shwiezer 300. Seven belts from the engine turned the main rotor. It was like flying in a
goldfish bowl. The trim gauge was a piece of string on the front of the canopy. Those were the days.

The reason that you got your PPL in a '59 C150 is because you got it in 1960..... so it was a year old plane then

Sounds like it was made of rocks and sticks and papyrus. Probably painted with squid ink and berry juice.

well lesson number 3 was yesterday, nothing intristing happened until on the runup pad, pulled up next to a piper chyane who had left
the same ramp as us, he was on a flight test with a FAA examiner onboard. whiel on the runup, both of us had to wait on a large jet (not
shure of the type but it was a big one, maby a gulfstream) after takeoff (witch i did) we flew to the south twords the practice area, i was
also useing the radio, lets just say you could tell it was my first time. a few turns climbs descents and we practiced for a engine out
landing setup (Set up for glide speed, look for landing spot) after that we flew over the beach out over the water, and practiced Go-Around
procedures, then headed back to the airport for a few touch and go's. about 2 landing then the full stop the instructer did, he was showing
me a 0 flap landing.

all in alll it was great.

forgot to update this. lesson number4 was last thursady. i did the Preflight by myself we took of as normal. flew south to the practice area
and did some slow flight, flying 65KIAS no flaps, then 40KIAS full flaps. stall horn helping us throue that. then we flew south and did 1
touch and go at ST augistien. 1st time i ever been to another airport. came back to Craig useing the VOR. then i did my 1st landing.

in structer asked for the option on RW23, and ATC granted it. as soon as i put flaps full i heard the instructer say "GO AROUND"
power full, flaps20 positive rate flaps10, above 60KIAS flaps up. ATC told us to do the nonstandered pattern as a R22 was practicing
Autorotation off the left downwind, then i made my first landing... almost. about 10ft above the ground the instructer took the controls, he
said i flared to much
