IMO.. 8800GTX requires a lot juices.. i mean 500W+ PSU (750W is recommended)... perhaps your current PSU didn't take it any longer for that power hungry card... also.. 8800GT can match its performance on a GTX with the price level of GTS... but you have to overclock it and use 3rd party coolers like zalman, TT and etc to cool off... but i love to see your 8600GTS superclocked then fly it on FS9 or FSX... since im about to get an Palit 8600GT Sonic+ 1GB DDR2 For flight simulation use only. Yeh, not if I am not capable of running an SLI conifgurated system. I would have needed a new mobo, which would cost more than the 8800!

Now I'm waiting on the replacement card. I likely won't use it in SLI config, but will keep it as a back up in case the original card goes bad. The heat generated by both cards wasn't bad at all, however. As far as performance goes, 2 cards don't necessarily enhance performance much. Yes, SLI does a much better job of rendering textures and smoothing them out, but not necessarily increasing FPS. The "much better performance" statement is a myth. Folks need to read up on SLI to get the real story.

Yes, as Joe mentioned SLI doesn't really have an effect on FS9, only on games like Crysis, and some other modern games (not including FSX until a
patch is released) will you notice a good difference. SLI won't give you double the frame rates, so really one 8800GTX is better then 2 8600GT's when it comes to FS9/FSX. Post Edited ( 01-13-08 01:20 )

There are good motherboards that dont cost alot that can use SLI.

for me SLi is only a myth.... if you have the money to burn.. then buy.... but i would stick to the saying "Bang for the buck"... =) ...HTH For flight simulation use only. NOT FOR REAL WORLD NAVIGATION! |
