One Dead Passenger - Emergency?

Hi! I am just doing a flight in the L1011. There was some severe turbulence, (Extremely severe) and one passenger unfortunately died.

I have about 2 more hours left until I arrive at my destination. Should I declare an emergency or not? I would say no, as there is no
injuries and only one dead passenger and there isn't much I can do for him now. So its best to just wait until landing? Right now I am
serving beverages to keep the passenger's mind off the dead passenger.

been on here a while, and aint seen a passenger die due to severe turbulence - hats off to Dan yet again

sorry cant help with the q - i would also say no to the emergency, but thats just a guess

Well in RL you need an ambulance , so more or less it's a emergency but low priority

Sorry my mistake! The passenger was injured! I don't know why I ever read it as dead.

No, you don't need to declare an emergency for that. A good rule of thumb that works 95% of the time is that if the Co-pilot doesn't let you
know that you have a problem on board, you don't need to declare an emergency.

Unless of course you are paying attention to your guages and see your engine/oil temp going up...up...up, or your fuel going
down...down...down

I don't know in what should be done in FsP if someone dies due tho shake in turbulences. But hen, I can hardly imagine all others passengers like if
nothing happened More likely if one person die in such conditions, some others will be wounded and others shocked. This would need an
emergency annouce to get the necessary medical assistance to handle the situation in flight and once landed.

like I said 95%. The two that you pointed out is the 5% that was left out

It would also be possible that the other pax are glad if this person happened to be a troublemaker on board or so. In fact all what is needed then is
an extra round of drinks to celebrate. Decisions, decisions....

And yeah I hadnt had enough java this morning so my caffeine intake was running around 75% failure rate

then I declare emmergency and immediate landing to save the crew, the captain and the drinks from such a bunch of @#!!! (I am very brave but

I think that should be fixed, don't you think we should divert as soon as possible if someone gets ill, injured, DEAD, i think if some1 died
in a plane i was on i hoped we would divert.

It seems easy, but it's really not. I know Dan was working on that, but it's hard to get it usable.

Aerojim I understand if someone gets hurt. But you would want to divert if someone died? Theres not much you can do for that person
anymore so what would be the point?

You might want to pack the body in ice, especially during a looong flight.

Seriously though, I wonder what airline (or FAA) procedures state for such a case; somehow I can't believe that any flight would simply
continue it's route as if nothing had happened..
