CTD problems

Ok I'm starting a new thread as jay requested (the old one was getting too long), I'm going to copy and paste the last few posts of the previous one
for reference (sorry I don't know how to link to it)

Hello everyone,

I seem to have the same problems as the original poster (found this post with a google), and with roughly the same setup scenery-wise (FS global, UT
US+CAN/AK + Europe, flight corse+ autogen, flight environment, ground environment, my traffic 2006 and asv6, and FSpax of course), I suffered random
CTD's with no error messages, completely random, different places, times and seasons, really drove me nuts

After many many reinstalls, installing add-ons one at a time, and letting my plane go in circles overnight, beetwen each to see if it would crash I
finally narrowed it down, within minutes (with everything add-on mentionned earlier working without CTD's) after installing aerosoft's "france 1" I
got a CTD, I noticed that the OP was using "france 2" and another poster saying he disabled another aerosoft scenery maybe it's the common link here ?

I wonder if the installer is doing something funny with my fs2004 install ? (it already installs an incompatible dll in my modules folder so I'm a bit
suspicious)
the only fix I've found is not to install the scenery at all, then my plane can go in circles for days without a crash, but then, it's a wasted 30
euros, not really to my liking

Sami, did you fix your problem, and if so how ?, I just want to check if our problems are coming from the same source or if I'm completely wrong ( i'm
pretty sure of myself though as far as my crashes, but I'm not sure if you are having the exact same kind of crashes), is anyone running the same
sceneries and running the mentionned add-ons
(aerosoft france 1 or 2, or the one mentionned earlier, canary islands) without problem ? I seem to have found the problem, but now how to fix it
that's another story, I'm not knowledgeable enough for that

Sorry to take over your thread sami, but we seem to have the same problem, maybe we can help each other out in solving this, I've been struggling with
those ctd's for a few weeks now too and it's driving me bonkers too

PS: Jay what was this ghostimage thingy you mentionned ? could you send me a link ? it seems it would have saved me a lot of reinstalls

Madtrack, its okay you didnt take over the thread, and as you read, JayKae was helping me out a lot. Anyway i reinstall flightsim with all
addons EXCEPT France 1, 2 as well as flightparis base pack and autogen. Everything seems to work fine now; however I also noticed
yesterday. I installed a 767 panel and it required me to add the gaugesound.dll file to fs root as well as my system 32 folder, when i did
that i started getting CTD, so what i did was took out the one from fs root and leave the one in system 32, and everything works fine now. I
didnt reinstall freeflow because i just dont have the time to test them again; however since JayKae says they are fine, i dont believe them
to be a problem, but definitely I would say to uninstall the france 1, 2 and if you have germany scenery, test them first and see what
happens, then just dont install them, sorry i wasted a lot of money with addons but what can we do but try to keep our flightsim running,
its better to loose a few than to not fly at all.. Let me know if you have any other questions, we are all willing to help

yeah I'm actually doing my Nth reinstall, this time without installing france 1, I'm also zipping up my entire "working" FS9 folder so I can revert
back if needed
I did notice notice it was more crash-wise when using any kind of GPS or FMC, but then, maybe it's only my imagination at play there, I could have got
lucky with the default mooney

I really have no idea where the conflict may lie, i posted my problem on the flight 1's forums and did not notice many posts about that particular
problem while browsing (there's even a patch to make france 1 & 2 compatible with UT, which I applied of course), I guess if their was some
compatibility issue beetwen their products and aerosoft's there'd be a lot of posts about it

still I'm a little sad not using france 1, it contains 2 airports I like a lot (LFML and LFMN) having lived in that area for a while, I will still
post the
issue in the aerosoft forums, after all it's a payware product (and not especially cheap IMHO), and I must admit I'm wary buying anything from them
again, I don't want to break my install again
now, I have quite a few sceneries and theirs the only ones that gave me problems at all, so hopefully they can fix the issue (I don't know the quality
of their customer support service tho, we'll see)

I feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one having this issue, I really was staritng to think that my computer didn't like me or something
, and if several people have the issue, maybe it is "fixable"

it's a really annoying issue as it can happen anytime and is really frustrating at times (I know my computer was asking for a "non-simulated flight"
trough my window when it CTD after a 4hrs+ flight when I was on final )

well now I'm completely lost, I did a complete reinstall up to the point when everything was working correctly, without installing france 1 which
broke my previous install

So I'm off and happy to do start a new flight and 3 minutes after departure ... staring at my desktop again with no error message, nothing in the
event log but an ID=0 error and no further info

I really don't understand, everything was working correctly (for a week) until I installed france 1, ok fine, no problem, I wipe uninstall all add-ons
and delete all FS9 folders and whatnot, reinstall everyhting up to the exact same point as the day before when all was working correctly and the CTD
came back, where's the logic in that ?

the only other thing I had done this day was to register and upgrade FSUIPC to the latest version, could that be it ? (seems far streched given how
widespread and popular the program is, and I had the problem before that anyways)

I tried all this :
modifiying the terrain.cfg, disabling options in UT, removing duplicate AFCAD files, disabling scenery,
I also uninstalled all UT completely, restored standard FS9 textures, then installed UT USA + Canada + Europe (+ patchs) in that order, then installed
FE + GE and installed the lastest drivers for my soundcard and graphics card (at least I fiexed my screeching sound problem when using add-ons
aircraft with that heh) and looking into potential overheat issues

I admit it, I'm out of ideas, any help would be appreciated

Ok, to answer you the first question, ghost image is Norton Ghost, I burn a "snapshot" of my FS install before I install ANYTHING

Now your problem and I have to admit I was not able to help samiranks no matter what I tried. I need you to answer me something first :
Have you updated your FS install with patch 9.1 ? If not you should do this but there is one problem really, it should be done on a virgin FS
install, so that might pose as a problem. Anyway, no use me talking about it if you already have 9.1 installed but please let me know

I have had problems with traffic causing CTD on my system. I run with only 27% selected on the traffic slider, no labels on the AI aircraft.

yes I installed the 9.1 update first thing after installing FS9 itself, before installing any other add-ons, still I got the CTD on a rather "bare"
FS install (only the necessary add-ons, all the UT's FS global, my traffic 2006, FSpax and asv6), I was flying the eaglesoft cirrus SR-22 if it has
any relevance

It's no worries if you can't fix my problem, I really appreciate you trying to help, I have to admit I'm not very knowledgeable with how FS9 works
internally (tho I learned a fair bit trying to fix this), the .cfg files and such I don't understand, I guess if I really can't fix it I may resort to
the "FS9 doctor" you mentionned in the other post, but I looked over at their website and the 60 euros price makes it a bit prohibitive for me, and
I'm not sure he could fix it more than anyone else anyways

it's annoying because there's no telling if you fixed it until it happens, it can happen from 3 minutes after takeoff (annoying but bearable) to up
until final after several hours of flying (very frustrating) and with no error message it's hard to pinpoint the cause, honestly I would have liked a
CTD at loading screen more, at least you know when you fixed it

Cheers for the link to norton ghost, It's on my to-buy list, as it sounds faster and easier than zipping the entire FS9 folders each time (which takes
several hours each time)

EDIT : Serviceman were you getting error messages with your CTD's ? it's true I haven't looked into AI traffic at all, could it be related to something like ATC trying to call an airline which has a missing soundfile or something ? or two air craft with the same registration or flight number on the same frequency ? that could explain the randomness of it

well to tell the truth JayKae all i did was uninstall flightsim one more time then only install sceneries and payware that i trusted. eg.
flytampa and megascenery. after that i tested my flightsim and everything was fine. I then went to wear i believe the issue was which was
either the new spanish airports or the flightscenery paris autogen and scenery. Well enough i found out that it was something that was
not compatible in that area. I still didnt reinstall my LFPG or London Gatwick as yet. What you may need to do Madtrack is do what i did.
Let us know all of the addons that youre using then we can help from there. One last thing, when you uninstall your flightsim using the cd
did you then go back and delete the rest of the files from the Flightsimulator 9 folder? sometimes the cd tends to leave files still in the
folder which was from an addon. Once youve posted your you addons, let us know what youve install so far then We will be able to tell
what module may be added to your modules folder. One last thing (i know i said that before) if none of the above work. Uninstall allllllll
addons, then we will install each add on in a seperate folder. meaning youll make a folder call flightsimulator 9 copy and paste the
fs9.exe in it. Change the name of the real flightsimulator 9 folder to something else and we will see how the addons are being installed
in the test folder and see whats going where....

Yes I did delete all assiociated folders when I uninstalled FS9, the main directory, the c:\documents and settings\application data\microsoft\FS9 and
the my documents one

I'm not at my FS9 computer right now but as soon as I get there I will try to post my scenery configuration list, see if there's something wrong in there
that's a good idea about the fake FS9 folder, I will try that out with sceneries I don't really trust

I also noticed that the disk space was getting kinda low (well around 1,1GB), maybe that could be causing the problem, I don't know how much FS9 needs
for the pagefile (it is not installed on the same drive, it's installed on another physical drive by itself), I don't know just throwing ideas out
into the blue, I'm running out of them tho heh

have you done a disk clean up lately? my computer, right click, properties, disk clean up? or maybe some files that you really dont need
on your hard drive. also temp internet files as well as temporary internet file folders needs to be cleaned out. also if youre using winzip, it
tends to add a unzipped folder in your documents folder which really eats up some space on computer. also after checking the addons i
guess we can check for any antivirus programs you may have running in the background. a lot of times anti virus tends to do virus scan
late at night which causes CTD some of the times. Also did you look to see if you have the file call gaugesound.dll in the fs9 root folder?

Yes I cleaned my C:\ drive, I will check if it changes something (6GB free now), I disable Zonealarm everytime I launch FS9 as it interferes with
active camera anyways, gaugesound.dll is indeed in the root folder, can this be the problem ?

before you do anything else madtrack delete the gaugesound.dll file and see what happens. or just move it from your fs9 folder

Yes, I agree with sami, I had a look at your scenery and it seems to be quite fine so do what sami said and we'lltake it from there

Well here's an update:

my aircraft ran overnight without a CTD, even with france 1 installed, the only thing I didn't do was register and upgrade FSUIPC to the latest
version, maybe there is an incompatibility beetween 3.6 and asv6 or another program, I just installed the version that comes in
the asv6 folder, the prblem is if I register it, asv6 doesn't recognizes that FS9 is launched anymore, oh well ...

I will let it run again tonight before I do any further tweaking, I'll let you know how it goes
